The Good

Quarter of the way through the season, I thought we could discuss some of the positives thus far.

• Clay. 'Nuff said.

• Tramon Williams has been our 2nd or 3rd best defensive player this season. He's made himself into a legit NFL starter, one who could find himself in the Pro Bowl soon

* Shields missed a game, but thus far you aren't hearing his name called or seeing him routinely having to tackle anyone. That's a good thing.

• Cullen Jenkins is playing like a man possessed (to earn a new contract).

• Raji looks to be everything he was billed to be.

• Mike Neal showed on Sunday why everyone was so excited about him in the pre-season.

• Finley hasn't found the end-zone as much as most people thought, but he's still a terror over the middle and he's getting his yards.

• John Kuhn has done well when his number has been called. 4.7 ypc in a small sample size that will only get bigger as the year goes on.

• Mason Crosby. Only one miss thus far and he's 3-3 from 40 yards and beyond.

• Collins and Barnett have quietly had themselves nice seasons too

I think the biggest positive is the amount of younger talent that is showing they can play. Matthews, Burnett (until he got hurt), Neal, Raji, Shields, Finley, Sitton.

Also, I will say that when (if ever) our secondary gets healthy, it is looking pretty good, especially with one more corner drafted.

S: Collins, Burnett, Bigby
CB: Woodson, Harris, Williams, Shields, draft pick

Even if Harris can only come back in the nickel, I like that set of DB's. Tramon has been awesome so far.

We do need another impact pass rusher added. I was sticking up for Jones this offseason, but he hasn't proven that he can either stay healthy or produce when he is this season. Zombo is a backup.

Tramon Williams has been the most underrated player on the team so far this year.

Absolute lock down corner right now through four weeks. Hopefully he keeps it up.

We haven't played well at all and we are 3-1.

If your expectations are 10-6 and maybe a playoff win you should be very pleased thus far.

If your expectations are 12-4,a shot at HF and making a run at the SB you should be very disappointed and discouraged thus far.

If this is the case then I assume you are counting out the Colts, Patriots and Saints as well?

Those teams have been disappointing as well but unlike the Packers those teams have the coaching and maturity to get better as the season goes along.

That's funny. I seem to remember this team going 4-4 and 7-1 down the stretch.

I also seem to remember the Saints being a juggernaut early and having to struggle out some wins at the end before they packed it in the final 2 games.

I remember the Vikings regressing down the regular season stretch last year as well.

I predicted we would go 11-5 and hopefully win a playoff game so 3-1 is decent right now.

It's been awhile since i remember a season where after four weeks, not a single team has looked consistently really good.

I guess you could say the Steelers have looked really good given they went 3-1 with scrubs at QB and Ben is now back.

Overall though at this point the league looks more wide open than ever with quite a few good teams, but no great teams that should be a near lock to finish 12-4 or better.

There are only 3 or 4 teams in the league that can feel very good about their chances to contend after the first four games, and that can change in a heartbeat. Other than that, most of the one-loss or 2-2 teams have had a terrible performance and still don't know what they're going to be either. This thing is wide open. At this time last year, we were wondering if the Packers would even be a playoff team. By the end of the season, many of us were convinced the Packers had a legit shot at getting to the NFC Championship or better. I'm not saying that will necessarily happen again this season, but it's the beginning of October, and McCarthy teams always seem to hit their stride in the second half of the season.

At least one and possibly all three of our PUP list guys will be able to come in and be solid contributors just in time for the toughest stretch of the schedule(Minny, @NYJ, DAL, @Minny)

Bigby will probably start. If Starks is healthy, he's far and away our most explosive back. I hope Al can come back but I haven’t heard much about him lately. Worst case scenario is putting him on IR.

Anyone have any updates on these guys?

3-1 is fortunate for the way GB has played against less-than-impressive competition so far. I know the big 'concerns' of the moment are running back and defensive backs, but for me, my biggest worry is the linebackers. I know it's in tandem with the DB's, but our linebackers inability to pass protect the middle of the field is very troubling. With our best pass defending LB - Chillar - possibly out with his shoulder, I see GB getting gashed again this season just like they did last year against Favre, Warner, and Roethlisberger. That's what will be their undoing.

Sorry, I know this is supposed to be 'The Good,' but other than the 3-1, I'm really not seeing much of it.

I also really like watching Crabtree. His blocking at the TE spot is pretty damn good. He had a huge block on that Kuhn 1st Down to seal the game.

Yeah. Crabtree is never really a guy who is going to be talked about a lot because of his role on the team. But he's a very good blocker.

I think Rodgers would prefer it if Crabtree never sees the field. I'm guessing that's one of his big issues, when we put Crabtree, Lee or both Kuhn and Jackson in.

Every time I see Crabtree in the game, I turn to whoever I'm watching the game with and say 'here comes a run'. If I, a casual observer, can see it coming, certainly other teams know he's in there for that reason. They need to play action out of that personnel grouping once or twice... Or just not put Crabtree in the game until he polishes himself as a receiver a bit.

It's time to go back to spread formation and just air people out. Quit pretending you have a running game when you don't. Use passes parallel to the LOS as a running game.
