Why MM needs to go

Post#1 » by Wilford Brimley » Mon Oct 18, 2010 12:27 am

Let me count the ways

-His playcalling is pretty bad. Many times I can call the play before it happens
-His inability to stick with what is works. For instance the running game last week
-His inability to get his team ready for big games. (NYG 2007, ARI 2009, MN 2009, DAL 2007)
-His inability to challenge the right plays
-His unwillingness to run the ball. Today, we were down 7, with 5 minutes left and we went 5 wide.
-He does not get in refs faces to defend his players (such as when Aaron is hit illegally)
-His teams consistently commit DUMB penalties
-He is not willing to fire his assistant coaches such as Slocum
-His teams play down to the competition (Tampa Bay, Washington etc)

We have GOOD players. Even with the injuries, the defense is playing relatively well, a testament to the depth on D. Yes I have problems with TT, but I think he has given MM enough talent to not lose to the likes of Tampa, Washington, Chicago, Washington, and not get overwhelmed vs teams like MN, and AZ in the playoffs.

T T and MM are a package. MM was TT's choice over a bunch of other more experienced, qualified coaches. if MM is not up to the challenge of coaching, then i would look to the person who didn't really take much time to evaluate the other potential availabe coaches (Gruden) when he hired MM.

as for TT , we all knew when a starting packer goes down, TT loves to replace him with his back-up rather than trade the future to win now. Tt never replaces an injured starter with a player close to his same ability. he never has, and he never will.

With that type of mentality, we will never win now, but will always be good, but not great in the future. TT is always building this team for his successor to succeed, just like he did in Seattle. once TT leaves, and we hire a GM who wants to win NOW, this team will win NOW, but it will never win NOW for TT.

The Bucs had talent, but would never won with Dungy as coach. Seatle had talent, but was always one player away. as soon as Dungy and TT left, their teams succeeded.

TT's biggest flaw is that he will never sacrifice the future to win now. the vikings come to town next week. they are a team that did sacrifice the future to win now. A totally different ownership/GM mentality. We will see which team/philosophy wins. the loser of next week faces a huge task in their attempt to make the play-offs. You could almost say the loser of next week is out of the play-offs this year.

Fantastic post. I really have a hard time seeing the Packers win a championship under Ted and mike. They'll sustain moderate success but probably won't have the talent to get to the next level. I hope I'm wrong.

As far as the OP goes, biggest reason for me wanting mike gone is that he has coach the most Undisciplined team in the NFL since he's been here. I realize players make the mistakes but when you lead the league or are near the top in penalties four years in a row, it's obvious they're not putting much emphasis on correcting it. Whats maddening to me is when mike says it's an aggressive penalty so he's okay with it. I wanna jump through my tv or radio and strangle him every time he says BS like that.

First, Gruden was still employed by the Bucs when TT hired MM, and hasn't won anything significantly other than his SB in Tampa with another guy's roster. Is he a solid coach? I think so, but he's not guaranteed to be the panacea that everyone thinks he is.

Second, Dungy won a title with Indianapolis, and who knows how he would have done with Tampa if they gave him another year.

Third, the Seahawks have not won a title since TT left, and arguably, regressed as a franchise talent wise and in the front office (though John Schneider, a guy who learned under TT, may turn that around).

If you want to blame TT or MM for mistakes, fine. But at least be on top of the history, Reed.

I don't think TT and MM are necessarily an inseparable package. Yes MM is definitely TT's guy and that is worth a lot in TT's evaluation process, he sticks with his guys, sometimes to a fault. I don't see MM being fired this season because the injuries are really a sort of built in excuse for whatever the record is because they have been absurd in quantity.

I do want MM gone, I defended him longer than most but at some point enough is enough with stupid penalties, bad play calling, horrific challenges and poor special teams play.

I personally can't fathom how anyone can be upset with the personnel TT has put on the roster anymore but to each their own.

Unable to make adjustments is my big gripe. On defense it's on Capers and I think he's doing as well as possible with what he has to work with right now. But on offense it's all MM. Unfortunately the injuries will give MM a reprieve. But with Cowher and Gruden out there I'd at least like to TRY to land one of them. I understand TT is always looking ahead 2-3 years and that's fine to a point. But not if you lose focus on the present.

Packers will never ever win with TT. Im not asking TT to go wild in FA or trade away a bunch of draft picks. Im just asking to do something. Get us a RB we need the depth anyway as you can see. If TTs to studborn to trade a 3rd or 4th pick away to save the season than call n donald trump and fire his a$$!

To be fair, I did hear warren sapp say that they needed that coaching change to get them over the top in 'America's Game' of the Bucs super bowl winning team. He said that Gruden was the perfect guy. Dungy was too soft for they type of team they had.

Not to mention, Gruden coached the frickin raiders back to respectability. I think he's the best available head coach out there right now.

Supposedly Holmgren has his eye on Gruden for the Cleveland job.

But IF, and I don't think it would happen, we change coaches, the Pack would be a better option than Cleveland, Dallas, San Francisco or any other team that will be changing coaches.

human refutation:

I know my history. i just didn't want to bore everybody with a 25 page post. people like twirls can't even finish reading my 1 page posts.

I used gruden as an example. When TT hired MM, there were plenty of other experienced coaches. yo u know tha t and i know that. Do you want me to provide you a list of the 2,560 th t were available? i used gruden as one example of the type of guy that was available. HMMMMM. gruden is available now isn't he? as is Cowher. but MM still has TT's confidence and the job. The golphers' coac h was fired mid season. Wade phillips should be fired mid season. it's not to late to fire MM, but T T won't. .

many football analysts have admitted the reasons why tony Dungy would never win a championship with the Bucs. And why did he win one for the Colts? because he basically went back to being a defensive coo-ordinator and allowed payton manning to be his offensive co-ordinator and run the entire offense and call his own plays. yes he was the head coach. But his role as head coach was drastically different in indy. if Dungy ran the colts like he ran the Bucs, they would not have enjoyed the same level of success. without payton manning, calling the plays, the Colts go nowhere.

as for Seattle, they made it to the Superbowl the year after TT left. many people say that's because it was the team that TT built. the reality is the year after TT left, seattle sacrificed their future to go for it all that next year. they actually signed a couple of veteran free agents. They made a couple of trades. and they made it to the super bowl. yes , Seattle has regressed. that's because they sacrificed their future to win it all that year.
