When I had my ACL surgery my doctor explained some of the complications that can occur if there is an infection after surgery, it kind of freaked me out. Infections are definitely a serious matter when it comes to surgery. Finley is lucky he only had a meniscus tear. If he would have had this serious of an infection after an ACL tear, he most likely wouldn't be able to come back until the middle of next season.

FFS.

It could have been a staph infection, which is no small matter.

I seriously hope they got it all taken care of, staph can end careers a'la LeCharles Bentley.

Staph infections are no joke, if that's what it was. Former Buck Paul Mokeski is a very close friend of mine, and he almost lost his foot when he was an assistant coach with the Mavs because he tripped over a weight in the weight room. You can still see where the infection was on his leg and foot.

Paul Mokeski was my very first pro athlete autograph when he played for the Cavs in 1981. I loved watching him spot up in the corner and nail those long jumpers. Tell him he has many fans in the Risdon family, no joke.

Hopefully he's ok. Tom Brady battled the same problems and he was ready to go the next season. With that said, Brady isnt a TE and doesn't have to run a lot.

We're Black and Blue All Over:

In an interview with ESPNMilwaukee.com's Jason Wilde, Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley revealed he had emergency surgery last week to address an infection in his surgically-repaired knee. He will receive an IV through a central line in his chest three times a day for the next six weeks or so.

Finley: "I had a second surgery. Nobody knows about it. I had caught a real small infection in my knee, so I had to go in about a week ago, had to go back under and get the infection out. I was in the hospital for two days. I'm surprised nobody knew about it. I had to get all these antibiotics in me, get blood drawn four or five times a day. It's terrible. Right now, I've got this IV in my chest, a central line.

"Nobody knew about the surgery. Some guys over at the facility had it, and it's floating around the locker room. I had to go in, it was emergency surgery. I had a 105 fever, I called Doc [team physician Pat McKenzie] and said, 'I'm not feeling too good,' and we had to rush in and clean out the infection. I don't know what it's called. I guess you could call it a staph infection, but I don't think that's what it was. But I had to rush in and they put a central line in my chest. I won't get this taken out for another month and a half. Three times a day I have to get antibiotics put through it. Courtney, she's my doctor right now."

Wow. I could be wrong, but this is the first I've heard of an infection that's "floating around the locker room" in Green Bay. Given the number of injuries and surgeries there this season, it's something to keep an eye on.

wtf?

Scary. 105 degree fever? Wow, that's really bad for an adult. Thoughts and good wishes to TGIF.

@MattBowen41 Had multiple Staph infections when I played. You can find dumpsters that are cleaner than NFL locker rooms.

Finley Had Same Staph Infection As Tom Brady
4th November, 2010 - 11:58 am
Journal Sentinel - Jermichael Finley had to receive a second surgery on his knee because of a staph infection.

"It's the exact same infection that Tom Brady had," Finley said. "I was running that 105 fever for a good 12, 15 hours. I think I survived it because we caught it so fast."

Finley's second surgery was first reported by ESPNMilwaukee.com Tuesday night. Finley said Wednesday that he was fine but that the ordeal was very scary.

"I had this infection 10 times worse when I was in high school," Finley said. "To tell you the truth, they almost had to cut my dang leg off because my leg, my knee, had swelled up to like a volleyball." [READ]
