Rose Bowl Leadup/LOL @ Goofs Coach Thread
Why don't we move all discussion here and change the thread name to whatever bowl we make.
We can talk other bowls too.

Oh snap.

In an interview with The Associated Press, the president at the university with the largest athletic program in the country said that TCU and Boise State do not face a difficult enough schedule to play in the national championship game.
"Well, I don't know enough about the Xs and Os of college football," said Gee, formerly the president at West Virginia, Colorado, Brown and Vanderbilt universities. "I do know, having been both a Southeastern Conference president and a Big Ten president, that it's like murderer's row every week for these schools. We do not play the Little Sisters of the Poor. We play very fine schools on any given day.

Yeah, that's really odd, especially when you look at Ohio State's schedule this year. That Miami win isn't looking very impressive, neither is the Iowa win. Then they beat Marshall, Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, Minnesota and Penn State.
Not exactly an impressive resume.
But I don't see how their schedule is any better than Virginia Tech, Wyoming, Oregon State, New Mexico State, Toledo, San Jose State, Louisiana Tech, Hawaii, Idaho and Fresno State? Plus they can add another impressive win to their resume with a win against Nevada.

I think there's a pretty big difference between even the bottom feeders of the Big 10 and the average teams Boise played this year.
I think even Indiana is more impressive than Hawaii or Fresno St. We saw how what most people consider to be the third best "little" school (Utah) get killed by a bad Notre Dame team.

Re: UW/NCAA Bowl Leadup Thread
Yeah, I concur with BF1+2 and think he makes his argument well, even though I believe Boise State should be in the national championship because until you lose to a team nobody has proven that you can be beaten. They can only beat the teams on their schedule, which they have. And it's not like they were ducking teams out of conference. Preferably they'd be in an 8-team playoff where everybody has all potentially deserving teams have a shot to win a national championship, but the current system is what it is.
But Twirlock, how can you with a straight face make the argument that Ohio State's and Boise State's schedules are comparable? The former will face 9 major schools who get many of the top players in their own states and are on the top couple of tiers in recruiting in the country. The latter plays 2 with that description. And Nevada, whose best win is Cal at home, but lost to Hawaii. BSU are facing 10 teams which needed to be extremely smart with the major school's leftovers in order to be on par with them, let alone be better. Maybe you have an anomaly in Nevada, who is on par with like an Illinois level team. But over the course of the schedule it's just mostly teams without the talent to match up with any decent major level team.
Wisconsin and Ohio State puts their national championship lives on the line nearly every week. Boise State and TCU get mostly byes.

Basically I am rooting for the most controversy and upset people in regards to the national championship game. Anything that is extremely unfair, such as an undefeated team not being allowed to play in the game is actually whats best for college football right now. It's the only way to get a playoff system.

Agreed. It's a joke that we even have to have this discussion. The OSU prez is a joke for thinking the current bowl system is great.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

The problem is that I don't think anyone with any power really cares all that much about Boise St. or TCU. It's going to take a year where 3 major BCS schools go undefeated to really generate any meaningful controversy.

Like the one where Auburn did and USC was the "undisputed" National Champion?

Found this very interesting, though considering the source I'd take it with a grain of salt.

That article is true, although it's 10 months old. Although BSU says they will play "anyone, anytime", they also want $1 million while Nebraska typically pays visiting non conference teams $600,000-$800,000.
Seems BSU is all talk.

Re: UW/NCAA Bowl Leadup Thread
Interesting Badger stats
According to QB rating, Scott Tolzien is the 7th best QB in the country, and better than Andrew Luck and Ryan Mallet
James White is 8th in Rushing Yards per Attempt
John Clay, Montee Ball, and James White are tied with 7 others for most Rushing touchdowns, individually.

Potrykus is saying Northwestern starting RB Mike Trumpy may be out tomorrow with a wrist injury.

Let's go Beavers, Cocks, Lobos, Razorbacks, Beavers again, Buckeyes, Nittany Lions, Sooners.
I'm still desperately clinging to the idea of a Badger vs. Horned Frogs National Championship.

There was discussion in the other thread, but I think I'll be going. Looks like a base price of $275ish I could get right now to get into the stadium. Hookups via alumni association, donors, etc. could get you $145 face?

Re: UW/NCAA Bowl Leadup Thread
So one thing has been bothering me since the BCS was announced. We have 3 non-conference opponents (ASU @ Arizona, SJSU @ Idaho, and UNLV @ Hawaii) with a game remaining and OSU has one opponent (Illinois @ Fresno State) with a game remaining.
Looking at those games, our opponents will likely go 0-3 and Illinois will likely win.
Now, can someone with more knowledge of the BCS than me tell me if there is ANY chance of a 4 game swing in SOS vaulting OSU ahead of us. Particularly with other potential craziness in the SEC and Big-12 championship games.
It would be absolutely horrible to be so excited to have those hopes dashed.
One thing is for sure, we need to continue politicking the voters.

Even if the 0-3/1-0 scenario happens, there is no way dude. OSU has had a lot of the non-conference breaks going their way and they've made up about 1/20th of the gap.
We're going to the Rose Bowl.

Anyone who wants a package might want to act quick. They're apparently flying off the shelves, so to speak. The Alumni Association will still have theirs available after the bowl is official, but all of the other packages that guarantee tickets are apparently going very quickly; the ones from respected agencies, at least.

Re: UW/NCAA Bowl Leadup Thread
I didn't take a package, but I'll be flying into Vegas and hanging in LA for NYE and the game, then hanging in Vegas. I'd rather overspend on this trip that way than with a package.
But I need a face value-ish ticket. Currently combing every hook up I have.

I don't know if any of you guys frequent BadgerNation but the TCU fans posting/trolling on that board have proven to the most annoying and biggest homers so far this year.
