Week 15 Leadup: Pats/Rodgers Officially Out
Time to move on from the disaster yesterday.
I know we basically have a 0% chance of winning this game, maybe even if Rodgers plays on Sunday night. If we were somehow to win, it'd atone for the Lions loss. That's really the only thing that can make up for that mess.
Rodgers is supposed to get a test today and if he passes that one, he has to pass another one on Wednesday. By all accounts, though, it sounds like he should be good to go by Sunday night.
New England's scary good. Say what you want about the Bears, but they annihilated a team with a pretty good defense. The Pats pedestrian-looking defense has really stepped it up the last couple of weeks too. And that Brady dude is probably playing the best ball of his career right now. I think it'll be a miracle if we even keep the game competitive.

If the passing game is clicking like it can, we can score with NE. If we start the game like we did vs. Detroit it will be over by halftime. With Rodgers coming off a concussion, I am not confident.

What are the odds Rodgers plays? I gotta think it's 30% or less.

Re: Week 15 Leadup: Pats/Rodgers Status
Peter King says he thinks Rodgers will play, which is kind of odd because there is no way he, or anyone else, can possibly know this. I would think there are more stringent tests he has to pass since this is his second one. As long as it isn't a Delfino concussion...
New England is playing fantastic right now. Maybe they are due for a clunker.

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

All I've heard is that he's getting a test done today and if he passes that one, he'll get another test on Wednesday.
Based on McCarthy's description of Rodgers after the game, it didn't sound that bad. I'm sure the league is going to be watching this closely, though.

Re: Week 15 Leadup: Pats/Rodgers Status
I hope the backup QB spot is reevaluated in the offseason. I know Flynn was thrown into the fire, but it's his third season. Rodgers also got his first meaningful playing time in his third season, thrown into the fire against a Dallas team much better than Detroit. And also on the road. Rodgers was 18-26 for 201 yards, 1 TD, no picks.
I know, I know, it's just one game.

Re: Week 15 Leadup: Pats/Rodgers Status
To piggyback MD's sentiments, I know someone had a nice positive reframe going by saying that Flynn throws very soft-catchable balls, but man, I swear it looked like someone could have run out of the stands, into the field, and intercepted a flynn pass before it reached the receiver. Flynn missing on Jennings doesn't bother me, and heck, it was closer than I would've imagined, but it was the INT near the goal line of a very tight game that killed me. A starting QB can take that chance, not a backup given the situation. I know it was a blown read on Flynn's part, but man, I'll pass. Give me a shaun hill type or Ryan Fitz if the Bills let him walk.
You gotta make it sexy! Hips and nips, otherwise I'm not eating.

Selfishly, I really want to see a Brady vs Rodgers matchup. If you step back from being a packer fan, you get to see the greatest qb from this decade to potentially the greatest qb of the next decade.

Re: Week 15 Leadup: Pats/Rodgers Status
Flynn was terrible. We need Rodgers if we want to win this game. That said, I can't imagine he plays... two concussions in a year is a lot to sustain...

Re: Week 15 Leadup: Pats/Rodgers Status
I had a chance to visit with Aaron," McCarthy said. "He's just starting to go through the testing and procedures and so forth. He slept in a little this morning. I'll probably have an update Wednesday or Thursday.
"We're not going to take any chances. It's no different than on game day. When it became an issue -- was he clear, wasn't he clear -- we pulled him immediately. We'll err on the side of caution."
Regarding other injuries, guard Daryn Colledge has a sprained knee and has a chance to be back this week, McCarthy said. Linebacker Frank Zombo also has a sprained knee, which McCarthy indicated was more severe than Colledge's injury. Zombo "will be challenged to be back," the coach said.
Here are some other comments::
On the performance of the offense: "Offensively, we performed poorly and that starts with me. I did not see any signs in preparation that led me to be concerned. Frankly, the issue was clearly execution. I give credit to Detroit. They did a fine job against us but from a scheme standpoint they pretty much played their base defense. It was our guys against your guys and we did not perform. ... It was a poor performance by our offense."
On back-up guard T.J. Lang: "As always I haven't corrected with the offrense and franky we're going to spend some time together and look at this Detroit film. It was not a good day for anybody. We were outperformed. Head coach, play-caller, all the way through."
On whether injured defensive end Cullen Jenkins could be back soon: "Cullen, I would say he'd be challenged for at least the next two weeks. I don't see Cullen being ready this week."
Could Jenkins be placed on injured reserve? "I'm week to week. I'm looking at who's getting ready to play against New England. That's more for Ted (Thompson)."
On the performance of Matt Flynn: "Matt did some good things. He missed some throws. Probably the biggest criticism I have. He was productive as far as moving the offense. We didn't help him as far as the run game and the protection was not a positive. He made some throws and he missed some throws."
On Rodgers and Flynn not sliding: "The quarterbacks are coached to slide and that's twice now this year Aaron has taken an unnecessary hit. Matt, too. But they're also football players. Time and time again we've had a number of second-and-1s and third-and-1s and we emphasize stick awareness. but it doesn't count for the guys in the red shirts (quarterbacks). We don't want them to take unnecessary hits."
On the chances the team would add a third quarterback to the active roster: "That was part of the conversation last night. Ted Thompson and I talked about that last night on the plane home. We have Graham Harrell here (on the practice squad). He's done a good job here and would be a viable option."
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Re: Week 15 Leadup: Pats/Rodgers Status
I actually thought Flynn played alright aside from that INT in the endzone. If we get a TD there I think we win, and even a FG would've completely changed the strategy on that last drive. Sure, he missed some throws, but you have to adjust expectations somewhat for a guy getting his first meaningful game action.

Re: Week 15 Leadup: Pats/Rodgers Status
Likely 10-6 playoff scenario for us:
Win our final two games
NYG must lose one other game besides our game (@ MIN, VS PHI, @ WAS)
TB must lose one game (@ NO being the only difficult game left)

Re: Week 15 Leadup: Pats/Rodgers Status
I find it very hard to get on Flynn's case too much about the game yesterday. The offensive line was playing like absolute crap and we have no running game. No line + no RB + no QB = doom. You can't do anything on offense if your only talent is at the wideout position.

I think we can win this game. This team tends to rise to the occasion against top flight opponents, especially on offense. As long as the defense can be somewhat decent (a big if) then I think we'll have a good shot at a W.

I'll be at this one. WeeksNMeeks lives out there and I'm visiting him. If Flynn plays, this will be the biggest waste of overpriced scalped tickets on Stubhub I have bought ever.

Assuming Rodgers plays I agree. The team (especially Jennings) will be looking to rebound in a big way this week. If Flynn plays I don't see us even keeping it close. Going on the road against the hottest team in the NFL is not a good situation for a back up QB.

I thought the same thing. Considering how awful our OL played, Flynn played well. That INT was a killer though.

Re: Week 15 Leadup: Pats/Rodgers Status
I'm expecting this team to go out and sign a backup QB this week. If Rodgers can't play, you can't go into the NE game with Flynn and...(?).
Schefter pointed out today that Jordy Nelson is the team's emergency QB. Wouldn't that be fun.

Jordy Nelson wildcat FTW! I think it's more likely they elevate Graham Harrell.
