Around the League: Divisional Playoffs

Post#1 » by ReasonablySober » Mon Jan 10, 2011 9:03 pm

Rex Ryan says Monday that the playoff game Sunday between the New York Jets and New England Patriots "is about Bill Belichick vs. Rex Ryan." The brash Ryan adds that "it's personal" and he plans on being the best coach in that matchup when the teams walk off the field at Gillette Stadium.

It would be so awesome if the Bears lost at home to Seattle, but I don't think there is a snowball's chance in hell of it happening.

Another week where I HATE both teams. But at least Bellicheat is quiet. F the Jets.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I hate 4 of the 8 remaining teams. In order - Bears, Jets, Steelers, Pats.

Obviously hope the Packers win. Don't really care about Bears/Seahawks. Seahawks would be an easier opponent for us in the NFC championship, but a Bears/Packers NFC championship would be sick. I'd be happy either way.

Really want to see a Patriots v. Steelers match up in the AFC championship, even though those are the two best teams and would be a tough match up in the super bowl for the NFC (Packers :D).

I'm friends with way too many Bear fans. I would hate for a CHI/GB NFC Title game, because I'd never hear the end of it if we lost.

Fox definitely wants Packers/Bears. Falcons have the best record but Packers get better ratings. Seattle at Atlanta would be horrible. Pretty much any AFC matchup would be ok with CBS.

As USA Today said this morning, although the New York market is the countries largest, their loyalties are fragmented. The NY market was 19th in the country in ratings for the Jets/Colts game.

You guys know it's going to be Chicago/GB for the NFC title. I'm leaving for Mexico on that Saturday, NFCC is on Sunday right?

Doesn't look like it unless both AFC Championship and NFC Championship are both on Sunday...

Just realized I looked at that chart wrong. I was looking in the Super Bowl column.

Strange, but my Patriots hate kind of died after they lost to the Giants in the Super Bowl. Brady's probably my favorite QB in the league besides Rodgers, obviously. Of course Bellichick is a jag, but Rex Ryan makes him look like Jesus.

Now the Jets -- that's a team that I can get behind disliking.

I feel the same way. Seeing them choke in the Super Bowl and miss out on a 19-0 season was so satisfying that I don't really hate them any more. And yeah, the Jets are much easier to hate because of Rex Ryan.

Referees for divisional matchups.

Ravens @ Steelers - Jeff Triplette

Seahawks @ Bears - Al Riveron

Jets @ Patriots - Bill Leavy

I hate Rex Ryan as much as anybody, especially after he talked trash when Woodson won the defensive player of the year award last year, but I think Rex is actually being smart here. He is saying that the Patriot's players aren't 45-3 better than the Jets' players.

Rex Ryan is just trying to motivate his players. Don't get all bent out of shape about it or he is accomplishing what he wants to. :P
