#TCU turns down one-time rematch at #Wisconsin, but both schools were contacted about the idea. TCU beat Wisconsin 21-19 in #RoseBowl
Kind of interesting, I'm sure TCU wanted a two game series so each team would get a home game.

If they want to not be left out of a championship game again this is the kind of matchup they have to take. When you aren't in one of the "major" conferences you can't be picky when you have a chance to face a top tier team.

If I'm TCU, I am very slow to pick up a nasty rematch game (especially an away one) after losing Andy Dalton. I am sure they want some time to coach up some new players at major positions before picking up a rather ambitious pre-conference schedule.

Aren't they in the Big East now? Granted the Big East sucks but according to the BCS they are a major conference.

Yep they are in the Big East now so in a "major" conference.
I wouldn't have done it if I were them without it being a home and home series.

This is the kind of stuff that drives me crazy as a Badgers fan. Just make it a home and home and get a good non conference opponent on the schedule.

TCU isn't in the Big East until 2012.

This. Instead of playing South Dakota, Wofford or Cal Poly, put a real team on the schedule.
There's a reason it's tough for us to go up in the rankings, it's because we play a bunch of garbage in the non conference and the people who vote don't know how good we actually are and they don't learn anything from us beating Wofford 70-3.

I'm not saying we have a killer schedule. But for the last time, does everybody realize that essentially every "Big 6" team in the nation plays a Wofford, South Dakota, etc? It's a big cash grab for both teams.
Yeah, I realize that San Jose State made it overkill after we'd already played Austin Peay, but I personally think it is a good strategy for us. Unfortunately, we're going to lose 1/2 of those marquee games because we're good, but not great. Playing a grind-it-out game vs. good opponents is going to give us just another chance to lose.
I'd rather pound San Jose State (most years, we made a ton of mistakes this year), take everyone complaining about how we didn't play a major opponent, and go into the National Championship or Rose Bowl with an undefeated record or 11-1 in the years we are good enough to be there. You're just adding an extra loss every other year otherwise and maybe that was the year you would have been 11-1 and now sitting at 10-2 you can't go to a BCS game.

this was proposed by a 3rd party, perhaps this will spark conversation and maybe they can work something out. I would love a rematch against these guys.

If you're good enough to be 12-0 or 11-1, then take a chance with a AQ school or a good non AQ school like TCU or Boise State. If you're afraid you can't beat them and that it will mess up a trip to the Rose Bowl, you probably don't deserve to be in the Rose Bowl.

Wisconsin never has a good QB. I'd rather take the cheap way to the Rose Bowl and play with house money there than have a legitimate team foiled if by chance let's say TCU is a top 5 team that year but we didn't think so coming in.
Think about it, in an approximation, we're only going to be Capitol One-ish/Rose Bowl-ish caliber every 2 years in an optimistic sense. Realistically only every 3-4 years but let's say optimistically every 2 years. I think if TCU is good, you've got a 50% chance of losing a home-and-home. Now you'll have one of those teams' seasons ruined. You'll either lose out on an At-Large BCS game, go 11-1 instead of a "lucky" 12-0, etc. Now you're down to once every 4 years having a team that is really good AND beat a TCU-esque team and you've halved away that other "once every 2 year" opportunity. Most of the time, what does it matter? You probably lost to OSU but won the Big 10 so you go to the Rose Bowl or something.
I'll take a "weak" 12-0 team or a "weak" 11-1 team giving it a shot for an upset or easier opponent to win a Rose Bowl or National Title over one that strengthens its resume every few years with a big early win.
We're not OSU or Texas. I realize we over-achieve every single year with those "3 star players" but those guys are "3 star players" for a reason. We put a bunch of them together, and play, say 5 tough games in a year...we're gonna lose 2 or 3. Why give ourselves another chance to lose if we can?
This is EXACTLY why BB and Alvarez do things this way, I believe.
For sake of example, sorry GPBM, but if you're the Gophers trying to get back on the national stage...maybe you play a USC and hope for an upset. Meanwhile USC wants the Gophers as a weak major conference team to beef up their record.

Think of it this way. Let's assume we played TCU @ TCU this year. If we pulled out a "huge" win, where would we be? 11-1, at the Rose Bowl. If we lost, where would we be? 10-2 in Orlando.
Other than hypothetically not having to play TCU in the Rose Bowl if we had beat them earlier in the year, the extra cheap win normally helps more than it hurts. Only time it's gonna hurt is if we go 12-0 and other teams go 12-0 too and we have a weak schedule. I think beating OSU, Nebraska, Penn State, Iowa, etc. will normally be good enough to take over anyone but a team in the SEC anyways and win out in that tiebreaker.
I think we are certain enough that if we play weaker opponents, we can still get to 11-1 and in a back-door At Large BCS bid. We don't have to really worry about propping up our BCS number for conference purposes anymore anyways given that we have a conference title game.
In the case of 12-0 if we ever would get there, we'd only be screwed by another 12-0 SEC or Pac 12 team. Otherwise, 12-0 and beating OSU, Nebraska, etc. is going to get us in over any 1 loss team.
If we schedule another tough game vs. TCU, etc...we're just giving ourselves another chance to lose out on a BCS game.

Let me tell you how bad I hate the Big East and how pissed I am that TCU is going there....
