Around the NFL: Off-Season Edition [Labor/FA/Trades/etc.]

Figured we could use a non-Packers off-season thread.

Vikings will place franchise tag today on LB Chad Greenway. This means that neither WR Sidney Rice nor DE Ray Edwards will be tagged.

ProFootbalFocus ProFootballFocus.com
The way the Vikings deal with Sidney Rice will be huge indication of team direction. They need to re-sign players of that caliber

I'll be curious to see how the Sydney Rice negotiations go. Bernard Berrian got a massive contract and I can't see Rice asking for anything less than what BB got. Queens have so many problems at the moment, I'd hate to be one of their fans.

Kinda surprised they would franchise a LB over a Top 15-20 (IMO) receiver.

DE Everson Griffen of the Vikings has had a nice offseason. Arrested twice in three days, one of them for felony assault on a police officer. Nice job.

The transition tag can be used once a year by each club unless they elect to use a franchise tag instead.

Sid is a FA.

EDIT: I stand corrected:

1 billion is always a scary number - but when you divide it by 32 teams that is just over 31 million.

That's a pretty good point. $31 million isn't even 1/3 of a team's salary cap. That really makes that extra $1 billion seem like a lot less than when you first look at it.

Did Andrew Brandt join ESPN? Kind of surprised by that. Definitely a smart move by ESPN if true, Brandt is one of the best guys out there.

Just thought this was funny.

SklarBrothers The Sklar Brothers
Viking's lineman Bryant McKinnie dropped $100K at a Hollywood nightclub. Good idea, with a lock out coming up. Spend it while you got it.

So, the Vikings might lose Rice and Edwards, might cut Madeiu Williams and Berrian, and might trade/cut McKinnie.

LOL.

That would be awesome, then we could get into full offseason/draft mode.

Zulgad points out why I'm not sweating Jones, Jackson, Crosby etc. I think it's possible we see RFA for each of them.

That guy seems like a bust and Ray Edwards is likely signing somewhere else via free agency. Nice.

We should sign Sidney Rice, just for the hell of it.

Needed Chilly to sign an extension too.

That would have been awesome. :D
