Thompson's Top 10 Draft Picks

Mine would be pretty similar, except I'd move Clay to 2, Bishop ahead of Hawk, and Raji up a few.

1. Aaron Rodgers
2. Clay Matthews III
3. Greg Jennings
4. Nick Collins
5. Jermichael Finley
6. Josh Sitton
7. BJ Raji
8. Desmond Bishop
9. AJ Hawk
10. Bryan Bulaga

Honorable Mention:
~ Mason Crosby (was hyped as a potential 3rd or 4th rd pick, great pick in the 6th)
~ CJ Wilson (I just think he could be very good for a 7th round pick)
~ Matt Flynn (Great backup that could be a starter some day, taken in the 7th)

Pretty crazy to think Thompson's first two draft picks are/will be perennial pro bowlers. And that his first two picks in 2009 will likely be perennial pro bowlers. Thompson seems to be on pace to be a better early round drafter than Wolf, but Wolf is probably still the better late round drafter (though TT isn't bad).

I was about to call you a n00b for not having Tramon or Shields on the list.

Then I realized I am the n00b and that they were undrafted free agents.

Yeah, you can almost do a top 10 for undrafted players. Tramon, Shields, Zombo, and Walden off the top of my head.

3 - Jennings
4 - Raji
5 - Collins
6 - Finley

Crabtree and Havner were both undrafted. Both were signed by teams other than the Packers after the draft but were cut prior to the start of the season. So I think we can claim them. Also Tim MOTHER **** Masthay.

4. Erik Walden
5. Frank Zombo
6. Spencer Havner
7. Tom Crabtree

Rodgers and Matthews are unquestionably the top 2, considering importance to team and the fact that both were late 1sts. After that, it gets tough. Raji is a stud, but he was at 9 and Crabtree was the only real threat there. I'd probably say with respect to draft position and importance to team.

10. Starks

The last couple are tough. Hawk is a good player, but for this debate I don't know I can have him on there. Starks in the 6th round I think is going to end up great value.

If you anticipate where players will ultimately end up, I agree Starks definitely needs to be on the list. I tried to go by production to date as well as draft position. Hawk has been incredibly steady even though he has been a bit of a let down compared to his draft hype. He's also been an asset in the locker room and as a leader. So I guess you could say intangibles and steady albeit unspectacular play got him on my list.

Given that Ted now has a SB title, his top ten has field proven out to be much better than Wolf's top ten, although I haven't done Wolf's top ten. (anyone want to give that a go?)

Wolf just got a number of his big impact guys via trade (Favre, Keith Jackson, Ahman) and FA (Reggie, Sean Jones, Santana Dotson, Gilbert Brown). His draft picks filled out the roster.

Props to TT. He's got a great core there of players.

Agreed. Just as we've recently discussed on the Bucks board, all GM's make mistakes. But Thompson has built a young, talented and deep team. But building a winning team is one thing, keeping it going is another. It will be interesting to see his decisions as these guys age and/or get expensive. Who to keep and who to let go.
