Good of the organization to do it now rather than dick around for a couple weeks. Wish the guy well and good luck, so long as it isn't with a rival.

Yup, no reason to have him hanging around. If healthy he will have a good year. We just have no place/money for him.

That quote makes me sad, but it had to be done, I guess.

Huh. So apparently he hasn't been cut, he's just been told that he won't be a Packer and they'll look to trade him. If they can't he'll be released. They have to be under the cap soon so I would expect that he's gone in the next couple days.

MAYBE a team would give us a late rounder IF Barnett agrees to redo his deal. No team will pay him his current contract.

Obviously it would be better to get something for him if we can. The cap hit is the same. It's not all that much, his bonus was $5.1 million on the 6 year deal. So the last 2 years, about $1.7 million will go on this years cap. I think. :)

So can we have a thread predicting the day that the Vikings sign him?

I think the Prereq before releasing anyone should be to try to trade them to the Vikings first.

I don't hate the guy, I didn't appreciate the distraction he caused about the SB team photo. He is a drama queen and he believes people care about what he thinks a lot more than anyone actually does.

Don't hate him but he has made it clear he puts himself above the team. On multiple occasions he has talked to the media about not wanting to switch positions or being relegated to the bench. He costs too much to be a backup and would also be unwilling to accept that role. That is why I am glad he is gone.

All in all I'd say he had a damn good career here.

He had a very good career here. As pointed out above he would never accept a backup role. One of the results of having a strong, deep team is having to make some tough choices.
