OT - Intelligence of Packer fans

Post#1 » by Wilford Brimley » Sun Aug 28, 2011 5:35 pm

This is a serious topic, one that I have thought about for a long time.

Why is it, most Packer fans are not very smart, at all?

For instance, after a preseason game, take a look at Wilde or Carriuveau's mentions, and people ask some of the dumbest questions. Should we cut Grant, should we trade Starks, is Driver getting cut, does DJ Williams make the team, we need better backups (WTF?) etc etc

Then, take a look at the comments on the Packers FB page. Ridiculous. Here are a few:

Gabriel Tovar Why Swain?!?!

Vinny Banas Brett swain was good wtf

Jarrett Sutton Swain is a great wide receiver and did u see how many drops nelson had they shouldve kept swain and subbed him in for nelson at some times

Drew Mehan WTF? Havner is so money.

Ron Fernandez miss the ole lineup of the packs,, Brett Favre the best!

James Brann the packers needs better backup qb`s rogers no #4 not as tough

Jessie James ‎1. oline is horrible 2. need to get on a faster start. 3. cullen jenkins left and so did the pass rush. 4. barly a running game. Green bay has a tough schedule. if they continue to struggle they will 9-7 at best instead of the 12-4 they could be.

Etc etc.

This is the only forum where I can actually find intelligent fans. Are all fan bases like this? I've wondered this for a long time, and I don't get it, frankly its embarrassing.

Most Packer fans I know are very well informed and intelligent about their team. Although, I have run into some total morons when I've actually made it up to Lambeau.

Every fan base is dumb because most fans are dumb.

Your mistake is using the lowest common denominator of team based websites for comments. See any JS comments section.

Magic fan checking in, holy **** Harris is legit. Your GM should be fired.

But If JS and FB are the least, where are the GOOD comments?

Every team has their share of dumb fans. Seems dumb to have a thread on this ;)
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

pysch 101. People, not just sports fans, are much more apt to speak out to complain about something than to say something good. And in the internet world people often say stuff they know is "Dumb" just to get attention. Contrarian view points always get attention. It's that way for everything, not just sports, not just Packers. You can see it here on the Packer board and every team board.

The inbreeding would be my guess, but that's just an outsider's perspective.

All of these people should have offed themselves or uninstalled whatever operating systems they had after the whole Favre thing.

I agree with the "there's stupid fans in every fanbase" but I gave them a little bit more credit in the ability to realize that they were **** morons after they spewed all the stuff they did about Thompson during the Favre fiasco and all of us "no name" draft picks like Greg Jennings, Nick Collins, etc.

But yeah, there are dumb fans in every fanbase. Just listen to the Score if you want to hear the dumb fans from Chicago or tune into KFAN in Minny if you want to hear them there.

Cubs fans destroy everyone else in the percentage of stupid fans department, but every team has their share.

The Packers are so popular that they bring in literally every casual fan alive.

A large portion of them are those same people you saw in Cleveland waiving the giant foam #1 finger during the sell outs of the LeBron era. You have to expect some significant number of casual fan opinions spewing out with many misfires. Comes with being a championship team.

Try being a Cub fan and dealing with it. It's quite embarrassing.

Packers just have a large casual fanbase. More fans = more dumb fans. I don't think % wise we fair worse than anyone else, I'd see we have more die hards than anyone so it goes both ways.

I've heard fans from all different fan bases not being that bright when it comes to the sport. Since I've graduated college I have had three jobs, each job has had a hardcore Cowboy fan and they have all been equally delusional.

First it was that Romo was going to be better than Favre ever was. Then it was Roy Williams was going to be an elite WR now that he has a QB. Then it was that they had 'the three most talented RBs in the NFL'. Then it was that Dez Bryant was going to be a once in a lifetime player. Then it was that Tony Romo and the Cowboys were better than Rodgers and the Packers if it wasn't for Romo's injury.

Not that I haven't heard stuff like that from Packer fans or other fan bases. But just an example of stupidity from multiple fans from a different team. :P
