OT | Al Davis Dies at 82

Post#1 » by MikeIsGood » Sat Oct 8, 2011 2:43 pm

While his decisions were often questioned and he was poked fun of a lot, he was an iconic NFL personality and oversaw some classic and great Raiders teams. His health was certainly in question so this isn't too surprising, but nonetheless the NFL has lost one of it's legends.

RIP.

That sucks, sad day. Who takes over the Raider franchise?

Steve Jobs, Al Davis, who's next? These things usually come in 3's.

We already lost Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth and Derrick Bell the same day Jobs died, too. Those were two really prominent deaths.

One of those guys that I thought would live forever, RIP. Madden's teams were fun to watch, but to me the 1980 Plunkett team will always be the team that I remember as the RAIDERS!

He had his weird moments yes but I respect a lot of what he did. I don't think now is an appropriate time to make fun of him.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I grew up in an era where I watched him single-handedly decimate one of the most prominent organizations in the NFL. I wasn't in any way trying to belittle the loss of a human life, but the guy was 82 years old, he had a heck of a run and I was just trying add a little levity to the situation.

That said. He was more than willing to make a caricature out of himself, and to expect him to be remembered any differently than the persona he portrayed is impossible.
