Week 16: Titans Lead-Up

The only significance really left in the season is whether we land the #2 seed and get a bye or the #3 seed and host the wild card game. Technically, we can still get the #1 (need to win out with ATL losing out and SF losing one) or the #4 seed (need to lose out with NYG winning out and winning NFCE), but both are extremely unlikely.

It will be very interesting to see what happens with Crosby this week. I honestly don't see how you can move forward with him as your kicker. They have given him every chance in the world to turn it around.

Titans are horrible, obviously. CJ is most of their offense and Tennessee has the worst scoring defense in the NFL (29.7 ppg).

I really want a bye. Seattle has looked pretty damn good lately, hopefully they can take down SF.

Yeah, Seattle will be playing their asses off, it's a division game and they still haven't locked up a playoff spot either. I agree on the bye, I think this year would be a good year to have it. Get everyone rested, more rest for guys like Jordy, Woodson, etc.

I don't want anything to do with Seattle or Washington in round 1. Even at Lambeau. I could see Wilson or RG3 going off. Other possibilities would be Dallas, Minny, Chicago. Regardless I would love the bye and get one of these teams in round 2.

You can't trust Washington's defense despite the improved play during their winning streak. Their secondary is still horrible and their pass rush is also lacking without Orakpo and Carriker.

Conventional wisdom would say we don't want to see Seattle in round 1 but I sure as hell want them in Lambeau. I want our team to play angry and get revenge for the BS in Week 3. Its only right.

The only team in the NFC I'm worried about is SF. The Giants don't worry me AS much because they aren't consistent and we could easily play them on a day where they are just not on which has happened more often than not the last 7 weeks.

If we could get far, I'd love to see how we play Atlanta.

If the Giant miss the playoffs then the Redskins are the team I am most afraid of playing. It's not because I think they are a great team... but RG3 scares the crap out of me. He's one of those type of guys who can just single handedly beat you, kind of like Vick when he was younger.

The only two match-ups i want to avoid is SF and NY. San Fran is just too physical for our finesse style of play. Especially now that they have Kap at qb. Dude gives them a dimension that Smith never provided. NY already knows they can beat us wherever. They can finish 9-7 and I still don't want to deal with their D-Line.

A bonus to facing Seattle (in addition to revenge) is that they could be without at least one of their top CBs due to suspension.

Seattle isn't that great on the road. It's a toss up between them and Washington. Both QB's can burn you through the air and on the ground. Seattle definitely has a better D. Either way I'd be disappointed if we lost to either at home.

Outside of the Giants, there is no team I'm really super concerned with facing in round 1. I'd probably rank my matchup preference as:

1. Minnesota
2. Chicago
3. Dallas
4. Washington
5. Seattle
6. New York

With New York being easily #6. The QB's for 1, 2, and 3 don't concern me at all and that's why I have them there.

Washington is the team that scares me the most by far. Minnesota is also gettigtheor **** together at the right time and have perhaps the GOAT running back.

It just sank in btw, how dire the kicking situation is by reading that wiretap headline. "Crosby falls below 60 percent, Packers refuse to make change." may sound blasphemous but Crosby could have a potential dynasty ending missed field goal. If that were to happen I'd be so GD pissed. Not at Crosby himself. Not his fault he still has a job.

Butler was on the tweeter talking about how the Pittsburgh job could be open after this year, and how he could see McCarthy leaving for his dream gig. If that were to happen, welcome back Grudes. Fwiw, I think the chance to coach GB and Rodgers would for sure bring him out of the booth, though I have an admitted stiffy for Chuckie.

Peterson is a stud, but a RB alone isn't beating us in the playoffs, regardless. Every playoff game we've lost recently has been due to great QB play. Ponder isn't doing jack against us with that WR core and he's not a huge running threat either. If he was a running QB I'd be far more concerned, but he isn't.

I disagree that we'd rather play NYG than Washington as well.

Is there speculation that Tomlin could be fired? I doubt that would happen. I also kind of doubt MM would take the Steeler job because I think he has that much respect for the Packers organization and history. I do agree that Gruden would leave MNF in a heartbeat if he was offered the GB job.

I see no possibility Tomlin gets fired.

RG3 is also hobbled. Even when he gets back, I think he's going to not run as much and the Shannahans will call more plays from the pocket and the bootleg that they run.

Yeah, I'd rather play Washington than Seattle. Seattle can disrupt our passing game with their secondary, has a better running game, and still has a really efficient/running QB. I realize RG3 is scary, but their D is also pretty bad. They have been absolutely shredded through the air all season and don't rush the QB well at all.

Yup.

In actuality, Washington's run game > Seattle.... but RG3 has inflated those numbers with his rushing but he's won games getting big gains and TDs on the run. Both top rushing offenses this season.

My concern with both teams is they will try to keep Rodgers off the field and control clock.

The Vikings scare me more than most lead on. They have the recipe for defenses that can stop us with just rushing 4 and playing an umbrella. I realize Ponder may make a catastrophic mistake or two, but I'd rather not think about Peterson getting the ball 30-35 times in a snowy playoff game where he averages 7 yards a carry and Rodgers only gets 6-7 possessions the whole game.

AP is good, but I'd much rather face a team based on the run than on the pass in the playoffs. Especially if the QB is not only not their main weapon, but is barely a threat at all.

Given the current play of our secondary, assuming there is no more injuries, we would absolutely shut down their passing game to almost nothing, IMO. Peterson may get 160 yards or whatever, but that wouldn't be enough. He gashed us for 210 yards in the last meeting and they still only scored 14.

It comes down to Ponder not making catastrophic mistakes. Maybe he does.

I think there are several posters on this board that can move the football as the QB on the Vikings. He was tossing to tight ends with nobody within 10 yards of them early on on play actions. Ponder doesn't make those dumb mistakes and they win that game.

I would most like to face Dallas.
