Was first reported by his wine company.
Here are some comments from Bedard.
Greg A. Bedard @GregABedard
Figured they'd do a restructure, but this is the way Ted works. Draft, develop, let the older guys go.

Woodson will actually have action “@DJWamBomb: @Aaron_Nagler Could this be a A.J. Hawk cut then re-signed move?”

@RapSheet: Carl Poston, Charles Woodson's agent, tells me: "They're getting ready to release him. It's part of the business."

Wouldnt be surprised if they still tried to restructure, but if he was too stubborn to budge that is his fault. I'll hold off on my good byes until I know he wont be coming back.

@RapSheet
Released DB Charles Woodson's agent Carl Poston: "He'd like to go play for a contender, win another Super Bowl. He caught that bug."

Just another reason Ted Thompson is just an average GM.

$10 million off the cap right there.
We should be at $15-16 million in space now.
Still holding out hope we can keep him.

A little surprised there was no restructure, but couldn't bring him back at 10M. Great player for the franchise and could become the first Thompson era player (excluding Favre who was a Wolf guy) on the "Ring of Honor" assuming Chuck makes the NFL HOF.

Brandt with some great commentary as usual...
Andrew Brandt @adbrandt
Woodson release part of philosophy in GB: draft and develop, create pipeline of talent, don't be afraid to play young players.
9 mins Andrew Brandt @adbrandt
Remember how hard it was to sign Charles, even with only other suitor TB for much less $. I sounded like GB Chamber of Commerce!
12 mins Andrew Brandt @adbrandt
Woodson was due $9 million in GB this year, but no remaining guarantee.
20 mins Andrew Brandt @adbrandt
Remember first minicamp practice when Woodson arrived: different level of player. Elite athlete, WRs locked down as never before.
24 mins Andrew Brandt @adbrandt
Woodson had some initial clashes with structure in GB but worked through them and became trusted leader. Presence will be missed.

Reports of Charles Woodson's impending release from the Packers. Special player, remember recruiting/signing him as a free agent.

Charles Woodson's illustrious tenure in Green Bay has come to an end. The Packers have decided to release the veteran safety, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports. Earlier in the day, the account for Woodson's wine company tweeted a good-bye.
The news doesn't come as a complete surprise. Woodson turns 37 years old in October. And this season, Woodson was due a base salary of $6.5 million with a roster bonus of $2.5 million the first day of training camp. That's a lot of money to pay an aging player who isn't the same dynamic force at safety that he was at cornerback, or even the slot cornerback position.
The emergence of rookie Casey Hayward likely made Green Bay's decision easier. At safety, Green Bay played with M.D. Jennings and Jerron McMillian alongside Morgan Burnett when Woodson sat out with a broken collarbone last year.
Woodson originally signed with the Packers as a free agent in 2006. Since then, he has 38 interceptions, 99 pass break-ups and 11.5 sacks in 100 games. He was also named the 2009 defensive player of the year.
Just last week, Woodson's agent expressed some optimism that Woodson would return with the Packers. Not so much anymore. Carl Poston told Rapoport that "They're getting ready to release him. It's part of the business." Echoing what he said a week ago, the agent also indicated that Woodson isn't ready to retire, saying, "I just talked to him. He sounds like he has a lot of football left."

I would imagine a restructure was discussed and they couldn't come to an agreement. That's the price you pay when you have a good, young team. You have to make tough decisions.

Love me some Chuck Woodson. One of my favorite Packers ever, but he is definitely slipping. If we couldn't restructure him on a very, very cheap deal then this is the right move.

Good decision. Didn't have the legs to play Safety and Hayward's got the slot locked down.
Sucks to see a player get old, but that's the business.

Would have loved Chuck back on a cheaper deal... But if that couldn't happen, this is absolutely, 100% the right call. Just a fabulous Packer, I'll really miss seeing him out there.

Will be weird not seeing DD, Jennings, and Woodson on the sidelines. That's a lot of leadership out the door. Some guys are going to have to step up in their absence. Looking at you Desmond, Raji, Jordy, and James.

Not sure what he wanted. He wasnt very good anymore and for his price that would be way overpaying. Good, but tough move. Wish him the best.
Id imagine someone will overpay him b/c of the name.
