What do you guys think of this?

Its not on company time, whats the big deal. I guarantee 50% of the black players say that word on occasion, or they say white boy, cracker or redneck on occasion. Just cause he got caught saying it on a cell phone.
The fact that he could be released for this is stupid. If TMZ caught Carmello Anthony outside a club talking trash to a white guy, get outta here cracker, damn white boy thinks ^T&*^&*, do you think the Knicks would fine him or cut him?

The big deal is that the word is hurtful and offensive to tens of millions of people. It's not a punchline. It's a word with a deep and extremely painful historical context. A history from which we haven't fully recovered, and which is really not very long ago, particularly given the failures of Reconstruction and the subsequent state-sanctioned racism (Jim Crow, etc.).

There is no such experience associated with racial slurs against white people. There is no power behind them.

Racism requires power. It's adorable that you think scholarships for black people or solidarity among the black community is a problem. Wake up. White people are ridiculously privileged.

I don't think it's necessary to head down the road of "what if a black guy said something similar about a white guy". You're right, and I agree to an extent, we all know there has become a double standard when it comes to race, among other things, it is what it is.

But this country, and world has become so damn sensitive and politically correct it's nauseating. I don't like what Cooper said, and I certainly don't like the tone, but my God, the media and people in general need to get off their high horse and take a look in the mirror. You can't seem to do much with out offending someone in this day in age.

As far as fining or suspending him, the Eagles need to protect their brand. He is an employee of the Eagles and they needed to do something, even though they couldn't care less about what he said, they care about their image. From a business perspective, I agree with how they handled it. I'm actually surprised he wasn't cut.

And to the main point, Riley Cooper is a moron for saying that at all out in public. But this won't the last time a professional athlete does something idiotic. It happens every single day.

So you obviously think that the Redskins should change their name, because the American Indians have had it just as bad as Afro Americans.

I personally think it's ridiculous that there's a team called the Redskins, but I'd defer to the people affected by it.

But if the whole idea is to stop racial segregation, why allow something that promotes it.

hmm, i beg to differ, I used to tutor black fellow students in organic chemistry, they are doctors now with 2.3-2.5 GPA's, tons of other student with 3.6+ GPA's couldn't get into any Medical Schools. They have greater opportunity than an other race other than American Indians if they apply themselves. I know I wouldn't want someone that couldn't grasp a REDOX reaction, writing me prescriptions or operating on my body.

Let's say it was an issue with parenting, which it is not (and let's also note that you seem to believe Native Americans are genetically predisposed to being bad parents). They would still have a lot more to overcome than you with your awesome white parents. By virtue of their situation, they could be a much better applicant than you, but made to look worse by their circumstances of having crappy Native American parents. This is why these adjustments are made.

Everyone has opinions, but yours have no perspective at all.

Let's take a step back and refocus on Cooper himself. He obviously knows what he did was wrong. He's ashamed of what he did. HE thinks it's a big deal. It seems like he understands why it's a big deal. But he still did it. I'd be interested to know wtf he was thinking about when he said what he said.
