Washington@GB Lead Up

WAS looked good in the second half. Defense really stepped up. I hope Kerrigan is out next week.

Check out this great piece by McGinn that I came across regarding Rodgers and the 40 seconds in between plays.

Once they were down 33-7, they really turned it on.

I would be extremely disappointed by a loss next week.

They put up 20 unanswered points. Defense was set back by 4 Washington turnovers in the first half and pitched a shutout in the second half.

They're not a bad team.

They're far from a bad team. They didn't pitch a shutout in the 2nd half, though.

You're right. They did give up that TD early in the 3rd.

RG3 put on a clinic of attacking a prevent defense.

That's what I saw. I'm not saying we definitely win, not saying the Redskins are cupcakes. Just saying at home, coming off a tough loss, I think we smoke them and I'll be very disappointed if we don't. Just on an emotional level.

Philly's defense, which is not good at all, had 3 sacks, 2picks, and a fumble recovery......I expect the Packers to do better.

If we don't win, I'll begin to get a little nervous. With our schedule, we need to win games like this.

Skins are not pushovers by any means but you don't lose this game at home and think you are contenders.

After watching the game last night I would blitz RG3 relentlessly until he proves that he can handle it. He looks tentative in the pocket and he hesitated to run... when guys were in his face he also wasn't stepping into his throws. He also just looked rusty in general and didn't do a very good job of reading the defense.

Yeah, I expect our defense to really harass Griffin all game. Redskins don't have the O-line that SF has, so our D-line should be able to get pressure without blitzing too much.

This is what most encouraged me about Sundays game and going forward, from McGinn's defense line ratings:

It was strangely conventional football, with the Packers in their 3-4 on 51 of 77 snaps (66.2%). The snap counts were Ryan Pickett (51), B.J. Raji (51), surprise starter Johnny Jolly (35), Mike Daniels (19), C.J. Wilson (18), Datone Jones (18) and Mike Neal (13). It was brawn against brawn, possibly the NFL's heaviest D-line standing up against possibly the NFL's best O-line. It surely was no place for the feint of heart. Raji flowed fast and was fairly consistent at the point. Pickett, 33, still can stack and shed. Jolly plays higher than Pickett but he's hard to move and his hustle downfield was remarkable. Indomitable Frank Gore, who is one tough hombre, hammered away 21 times and settled for 44 yards. He'd disappear under all that humanity, and only in the second half did he begin to surface for respectable gains. Saving Raji strictly for the rigors of base, the Packers started Jones and Neal in sub. Everyone had been drilled to power rush and then stop if necessary if it meant preventing Colin Kaepernick from bursting past. Discounting Jolly's garbage sack, the only pressure was by Raji. Chalk that up to the game plan and the exceptional opponent.

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

And of course this is what's concerning going forward, at least until healthy

The Packers blitzed 32.5% on passes. Their plan was to play a heavy box against the run, maintain discipline against the read option and cover as best they could. Minus two of their top five DBs (Morgan Burnett, Casey Hayward), the coverage was a disaster. Jerron McMillian missed four tackles, showed surprising lack of burst in coverage and was weak at the ball. M.D. Jennings was remarkably indecisive, as when he failed to fill the alley on Hunter's 23-yard run and didn't obliterate Vernon Davis after his 37-yard catch beyond Micah Hyde. Hard-hitting Chris Banjo was on the field for four snaps; look for a lot more of him this week. Unable to play press coverage except in goal-line, Sam Shields drifted about and had a brutal game. Hyde lost his way against bunch formations, showing why he fell to the fifth round. With the outcome at hand, Tramon Williams and Jennings couldn't prevent Boldin from a 15-yard completion on fourth and 2. Jarrett Bush had to play 20 snaps as the dime back. I can't imagine another 200-pound cornerback intruding on Iupati's space and getting absolutely destroyed. Man, that must have hurt.

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Yeah why the hell not. McGinn's assessment of the secondary was brutal. And accurate.

I don't know if McGinn and I watched the same football game, but EDS was not fine. He was the farthest thing from fine that I've seen since Jeff Saturday played this 49ers team. He was awful.

RGIII looks VERY timid and his footwork was horrible last night. He looked better in the 4th quarter when Philly's defense was gassed and playing prevent zone, but he definitely has mental hurdles to go over with that knee and with all of the voices in his head of protecting himself and staying the in the pocket vs. running (sliding too). That offensive line did not protect him well last night and the Eagles were able to blitz up the middle to get good pressure.

DeAngelo Hall is trash and they don't have anyone on that secondary to note. If Rodgers gets time, he should be able to dominate that matchup.

Skins are no pushovers but this is a game the Packers should win. If we go 0-2... the season is all but finished. You don't get into the playoffs with a horrid start like that.
