Rilamann and WB think we're going to lose this one, too.
But seriously, a good time to get a bye. Lots of short-term injuries that could heal up by Week 5.
Oh, and as cited in the PGT, the Packers
released Jeremy Ross.

Hated this bye week initially, but like you said it comes at a decent time considering our injuries. Heal up and rebound next week.

Agreed. I thought it was way too early, but with all of the nagging injuries, it could be a good time for a course correction.

After a costly mistake in Green Bay's 34-30 loss at Cincinnati Sunday, the Green Bay Packers decided to release wide receiver Jeremy Ross.
It was a rough for three games for Ross. Given the opportunity, he never caught on as the team's returner.
In addition to a fumble Sunday that led to a Bengals touchdown, Ross averaged only 12.5 yards on six kick returns with a long of 21. He averaged 10 yards on two punt returns.
The Packers could make Randall Cobb their full-time returner again or look to others. Johnathan Franklin worked at kick returner through training camp, as safety Micah Hyde handled punts. Green Bay also worked out former Jets running back Joe McKnight before the season.
If Ross couldn't latch on as a returner, it was going to be difficult for him to stick from the get go. The Packers have rarely used any wide receivers beyond Jordy Nelson, James Jones and Cobb this season. And while he did develop as a route runner, Ross offered little on offense. He had one catch for eight yards in the first three games.
Green Bay did not officially add a player to the roster yet.

I know this was mentioned in the PGT thread, thought we'd talk about it here since we will be signing someone this week to take his spot. Or maybe they move someone else there and sign another position.

I'm surprised McKnight wasn't signed after being brought in for a look. He must have been all kinds of terrible if he wasn't significantly better than Ross. Cobb on punts and Franklin on kickoffs would be my first choice.

Ross released is very good news. Brightens up my spirits for this team. Now let's sign a legit KR off the street even if he's been out of football for a bit. Just DO NOT FUMBLE and DO NOT FIELD THE BALL WHEN YOU HAVE A TOUCHBACK.

Thank god Ross is released. He's made a mistake nearly everytime he's returned a punt or a kickoff.
Like JimmyTheKid said, Franklin on kickoffs and Cobb on punts would be ideal. I never thought Cobb was that spectacular of a kick returner (save NO@GB) so it's not the worth the risk of getting him injured. He's much better at returning punts

BTW, ASIDE from 2007 and 2011, why can't we ever have a good first half to the season?
Last year sucked for the first quarter of the year, same as in 2010, 2009...

Need a 5th WR right? Myles White and Charles Johnson are sitting there on the PS. They can fill in KO and P returner in house if need be.

I'd bring over Hill from the PS and have him return.

Yikes, need a breather - Hoping the Pack can get healthy and study how to avoid losing anymore games in that fashion.
Based upon what the Bears are doing, I think we are fighting for a wildcard at this point.

C'mon now, don't be ridiculous. The Bears are only 3-0 because they've faced two terrible, 0-3 ball clubs. We've only had one layup thus far (WAS), and gone on the road and faced two very good defenses on playoff teams. Bears aren't in the same league as GB until they prove otherwise. We won the division starting 1-2 last year, and that was a much more heartbreaking loss in Week 3 than this. We're still the team to beat in the division.

Not necessarily. I wouldn't be shocked if they look to use that Bostick as their 5th guy somehow. He was the rave of "potential" and receiving is his strong suit.

Glad to see that Ross move was made, albeit a couple games late.

That is true and Chicago caught some breaks in winning their first two games, but in the end they did end up winning those games and does leave us in a two game hole. It goes without saying that our head to head matchups will be huge.
In watching them, i do think they've benefited from both the change at GM and head coach. Their OL no longer is a trainwreck and Trestman is a smarter offensive mind than previous Bears play callers under Lovie Smith. Their schedule doesn't look that rough going forward, so i could see them winning 10 games.

Bears lose 2 to us - book it - then we have = records.

PR is more dangerous than KR b/c you can get drilled catching a punt while KR can see the field. Thus I'd be OK with Cobb as KR but someone else for PR who is just able to flawlessly field the ball. We'd have dynamic weapon on KR and reliability on PR.

Not expecting Bears to collapse like last year, but they don't scare me regardless of record. I imagine to a lesser extent, this is how the 49er fans feel about playing the Packers

Don't know how many of you guys saw this. Trailing 34-30 with 3:47 remaining on Sunday, Aaron Rodgers had a chance to lead a game-winning touchdown drive to help the Green Bay Packers escape with a victory in Cincinnati. With the stage set for a classic finish after a wild game, this should have been a legacy-growing moment for the player many believe is the best quarterback in the NFL, right?
Not so fast. The Packers are just 5-24 (.172) in games when Rodgers had the ball in the fourth quarter, trailing by 1-8 points. Five comebacks in 29 tries? Tony Romo, considered by some to be a choker, led five comeback wins in the 2012 season alone. Among active starters, only Cam Newton (2-16) has a worse record than Rodgers.
He has numerous passing records, both a regular-season and Super Bowl MVP, but this is the one area on the résumé that continues to be a sore spot for Rodgers. Sunday was one of his worst finishes yet.
This time, while the drive was long in plays (13), it ended at the Cincinnati 20 after Rodgers’ pass was tipped on fourth-and-5. That was the third tipped ball of the drive, as the Packers’ offense ended the game with two interceptions, a fumble returned for the go-ahead score, and this turnover on downs.
These close-game failures have been the hush-hush hallmark of coach Mike McCarthy’s otherwise successful tenure as Packers head coach. While the blame should be distributed everywhere, why are we not looking at the quarterback more?
In response, I looked at every seven point or less loss Rodgers has been apart of. I looked at the 4th quarter score, whether or not Green Bay took the lead or tied at any point in the 4th, the final offensive possessions both in regulation and OT and the final score.
Not surprisingly, Rodgers comes out looking good. (write up and table data)Here are two things that immediately jumped out at me:
1 – 66% of the losses included Packer 4th quarter scoring drives that resulted in a tie game or a Green Bay advantage.
and
2 – 57% of the Packers final possessions in the 4th quarter were scores or missed FGs.
But sure, he's unclutch. /green font
