Goodbye Clinton Dix or any other defensive playmaker at 21, Hello offensive lineman.
Unbelievable we are still around 25mil or so and TT lets an above average player walk over a 3.5mil cap hit. Count me in with the not happy crowd.

Dude of all the things to be pissy about losing eds should be pretty low on the list. He's just a guy. No reason to think Barclay or tretter can't be an improvement. I would be shocked if they took a center early in the draft.

I wish last year we drafted Travis Fredrick instead of Jones. I thought EDS was average and not a big deal to me. If TT though passes on Dix or Pryor for a center though i'll be furious.

Good lord. He's a center and not a very good one.
In simple senses, unless you're washed up, if you're an OK lineman you can play center. What the hell else is there to do that is harder than guard or tackle other than snap the football and understand the offense?
And yeah, I'd fire Thompson if he took a center at 21 over Haha Clinton-Dix.

Is there even a center that could realistically be taken in the first round of this draft?
They like Tretter, it's been obvious for some time now. They are going to give him every opportunity to start for this team.

EDS wasn't very good. I'm not disappointed that he left.

That's just crazy to me. EDS was a focal point on one of the best offensive lines we've had in a few years now. Not a very good center is just a complete insult. EDS Sitton and Lang were stout as can in the middle last year. Your lying if your gonna sit there and say you can just replace that if your not washed up. That's completely bogus bro. Packers line troubles have come from the outsides, that's not a coincidence. Sure you can give Lacy all the credit for revamping the run game but I seen James Starks go nuts last year on multiple occasions. The offensive line was perfect heading into next year with everyone intact and Bulaga and Tretter hopefully 100%. Why on earth would you kill the chemistry? It makes zero sense. Please explain to me what's not very good about EDS?

But for that to happen they need an offensive line and a new coach and gm.
EDIT: Anyways, this is dumb. I'm not going to play the personal battle game anymore.

You liked Favre, I think TT is a good GM. We'll just leave it at that. I promise I won't jump on all of your bashing anymore, but at least try to make it sound somewhat reasonable?

No one would want TT fired because whichever OL we took at 21 would somehow be spun around and justified that x player was BPA and that's why we drafted him. Like uve never seen that happen before?

I will say that if our offensive line struggles in a major way due to this move this season that this will be a major blunder.
But between Tretter, Barclay, a mid-to-late round pick and an undrafted guy or two... I find it hard to believe we won't be able to find at least a serviceable center out of the group. I think people are overreacting.
Thinking that we are going to panic and draft a center in the first round is especially ridiculous. Unless Thompson thinks he has the next Mack or Pouncey, I doubt he selects a C in the first two rounds. If he was able to find a superstar lineman at C with one of those picks, then I wouldn't be upset about him taking that guy.

I should clarify. Obviously I was being sarcastic when I said I'd legitimately fire him over taking a center (I have no idea how that would happen). If a seriously good tackle was there as the BPA, I guess I'd take it? I can't see that happening, though.

I think we'd be fine with Tretter, the staff seems to be high on him. I also have confidence in TT finding a C with a mid to late round draft pick. We did fill our LT void with a 4th round pick last year.

I think this is less of a mistake than say, letting Scott Wells go. Wells > EDS, easily.
I am surprised we let him go for this price, but I do like Tretter and Barclay will likely get a shot too. I see this as a potential way to upgrade the center position. EDS was serviceable.

Remember McGinn saying that EDS got blown up in the San Fran game when Cobb got the ball at the end of the game on a run. that he might have scored. ended up kicking the field goal. and that from what he heard, that was a lasting memory for the coaching staff. and it wasn't the only time EDS got blown up........he was average at best. read what the scouts say about him. you're always looking to get better with him. He wasn't as good as Scott Wells and Scott Wells wasn't an all pro C. Good, but not great.

If the line is healthy next year, they can plug either Tretter or Barclay in at center without missing a beat. Bakhtiari-Sitton-Tretter/Barclay-Lang-Bulaga is the best offensive line we've had in quite some time. If TT drafts an offensive lineman in the 1st round, there needs to be an investigation. OL isn't really an issue.

I am glad we didn't make this offer. 3.56 mil per year for an (at best) average center? No thank you!
