Wilde thinks GB will go after John Schneider when TT retires

It would obviously be a home run replacement.

Most interesting portion:
Part of Wilde's rationale may be that Schneider bolted Seattle for the Packers once already. When Mike Holmgren left Green Bay to become the Head Coach and overlord of the Seahawks, he hired Schneider as his Director of Player Personnel. After one year, Schneider voluntarily left for a lesser position in Green Bay where Ron Wolf, his old mentor, was still working as General Manager. As a native of Wisconsin, Schneider also has family ties to the area.

I wonder what his contract situation is.

I think that all depends on how long TT plans on staying on. He's only 61.

Wolf retired at 62.

You know, I didn't know that. For some reason, I thought he was older. And then I look around the league, and it seems like GMs are generally in their 50s or so. Maybe I'm wrong, but I figured that TT would be on for at least five more years.

Having a number of annoying Seahawk fans as friends, I would love nothing more than to steal their GM away from. Just like we did with TT.

This isn't because I'm a Packer fan... but I have to imagine the Packer GM job is the best job in professional sports. When you become GM, you basically own and operate everything from a player personnel standpoint. You don't have owners to answer to, you don't have owners trying to manipulate you. The Board of Directors seems to just get out of the way and let the GM do as they please... which is, IMO, the smartest thing you can do.

So I would hope that would be able to lure in another great GM after Thompson is gone. I'd love Schneider back, he has obviously done an amazing job in Seattle.

Schneider is under contract through 2016.

Yeah, the thought is we'd have to give up a draft pick to get Schneider.

I think a few reasons it could happen include him being a native of the area, past ties to the team, and I don't believe he has full autonomy in Seattle. I think Carroll has a good portion of control.

The reasons against it is Seattle can pay with the best, its an organization that appears to be in stable ground for the upcoming years, nice area, newer stadium/facilities, etc. Its not a bad gig at all.

I think Thompson goes until about 65 and then maybe steps into a consultant/scouting role. Assuming good health, I don't really see him stepping away as he doesn't really have anything else to go to as far as family ties go.

TT as scout/consultant + Schneider as GM = ultimate front office.

Its a little shocking to see people support Schneider over TT on this forum.

I hope Schneider is our next GM. I thought his contract was up after this season but someone said in 2016. So two more seasons of losing in the first round of the playoffs until we get Schneider to salvage Rodgers career.

It's not about Schneider over TT for me. It's about securing the future. Whether that's 1 or 5 or 10 years from now.

Wolf retired at 62.

My gut feeling is that so long as the Packers keep winning and his health is good, Ted won't even consider retiring for at least five more years.

Unlike Wolf, Ted has no family. Plus, i remember Wolf saying that CBA changes in free agency/a hard cap both took some of the fun out of being GM and that it also put much more mental strain on him which was hard for him to deal with as his career was winding down.

So unless i'm wrong about Ted, it will be quite awhile before he steps down and thus a variety of factors could change in that time frame to dictate what direction the team went in finding his replacement.

I think you're probably right about that. It seems like Ted has nothing in his life except football. What does retirement even look like for him?

Yeah, I don't think anyone is picking one guy over the other. They just think that when TT is done that Schneider would be a good replacement.

Simple as that.

That's about right. TT may be ready to hang it up especially if we win another SB b4 then.
Carroll - NOOT Schneider - has final say on the roster & players - cuts, trades, draft but Schneider has final authority on all GM business stuff.

Schneider will leave for a true full power GM position like the pack.

I always assumed Ted was a vampire and will GM the team through the rest of my days.

I've always wondered how much power Schneider has in Sea. Obviously, the guy is great at what he does, but Pete Carrol has a pretty good eye for talent and seems to have all the power.

Yeah Rodgers has had a terrible career. We desperately need someone to come in and save him from the hell he is currently in.
