2014 possible Packer roster

Because Ted rarely signs multiple veteran FAs, typically the players who will comprise the final roster are with the team once the draft and rookie FA signings are complete. The exception would be a player signed after final cuts. This year a veteran ILB may possibly be added but more likely Ted will go with what he’s got. With the Elephant End position being added several players could be listed at multiple positions but are listed under just one for the purpose of counting the 53 man roster. Those players who play specialized positions such as Nickel, Dime, and elephant are listed again under sub-packages.

OFFENSE – 24
2-QB- Rodgers / Flynn
5-RB- Lacy / Starks / Kuhn / Harris / Franklin
5-WR- Cobb / Nelson / Boykin / Adams / Abberderis
4-TE- Quarless / Bostick / Rodgers / RTaylor
8-OL- Tretter, Sitton, Lang, Bakhtiari, Bulaga, Barclay, Sherrod, Linsley

DEFENSE – 26
7-DL- Raji / Boyd / JonesD / Daniels / Thornton / Guion / Worthy
5-OLB- Matthews / Peppers / Perry / Neal / Bradford
4-ILB- Hawk / JonesB / Lattimore / Barrington
6-CB- Shields / Williams / Hayward / House / Bush / Nixon
4-S- Burnett / Hyde / Dix / Richardson

3-SPECIAL TEAMS - K Crosby / P Masthay / LS Goode

DEFENSIVE SUB-PACKAGES
NB- Hayward / Hyde
DM- Hyde / House
DT- Daniels, JonesD, Peppers, Raji, Neal, Worthy
Elephant- Peppers, Neal, Perry

PRACTICE SQUAD
G Taylor
TE Stoneburner
WR Janis (7th)
CB Goodson (6th)
ILB Thomas
QB Tolzein
+1

IF there is a player added and one must be cut - Worthy is the main candidate. While he may surprise - he likely only makes the team and gets another chance b/c of being a 2nd rd pick

Would Tolzien still be eligible for the PS?

TBH I dont think he is. I thought it was more than 2 years in NFL right?

A player is eligible if he does not have an accrued season of NFL experience. Players gain an accrued season by being on the active roster for at least six games.

If a player has one accrued season, they can still be practice squad eligible if they were on the 45-man active gameday roster for less than nine regular season games.

A player is deemed to have served a season on the practice squad if he remains on the practice squad for at least three weeks. Players are eligible to be on the practice squad for two seasons.

Players can be eligible for a third practice squad season if their team maintains no less than 53 players on the active/inactive list at all times.

Based on those rules I think he has a season of PS eligibility left because he wasn't on the 45 man game day roster for 9 games, we elevated him to the 53 man from the PS after the 8th game so at most he would have been active for 53 and I'm not sure if he was active in week 17 but that is pretty much irrelevant.

CB James Nixon -on IR last season is cut. Too bad -he was right there with Shields as the fastest guy on team. Creates opportunity for 6th rd draftee Goodson and 1st yr player Jumal Rolle signed near end of last season.

I like our overall roster going into this year. The one position that still scares the **** out of me is ILB though. I hope Hawk can be decent and that Jones can get back to the guy he was two years ago... because then at least we have two solid guys as opposed to two total scrubs.

Yeah we need to take at least one ILB in the first few rounds next year. Our run defense is going to be a weakness until we get two formidable ILBs, no matter how much our DL has improved.

I hope Lattimore just beats Jones out straight up. He brings some speed to the position. Either that, or Bradford shows he can play if it he can't stick at OLB.

I just hope the defensive line can command double teams so our linebackers don't have to constantly take on blockers.

I am also hoping Lattimore steps up this year as well. A lot of stuff I read makes me think he's just a 4-3 weakside guy though.

I will almost always favor having a good player at OLB as opposed to ILB. But for this year I am honestly hoping Bradford steps up at ILB. One, because we are so weak at that position. Two, because after watching him I think he might be better at ILB than OLB. Three, because not only do I think he's suited at ILB... but with his skillset I think he could be a stud at that spot.

It just seems very rare a defense can be good without at least a good player at MLB or one of the ILB spots. I think losing Des Bishop (and Collins) has crippled this defense more than most want to say.

Count me amongst those who are much more concerned about how our DL and OLBs play against the run than our ILBs. We could have had prime Urlacher and we still would have been getting gashed on the ground in plenty of games because the play at the line was so poor. There is only so much a MLB can do when the guys up front are getting worked on a down by down basis.

Are Hawk and Jones world beaters? Absolutely not. But they are definitely good enough if we get some solid play in front of them.

I think with health, our OLBs will be world's better than last season against the run. I have no idea how the line will play. There is a glut of pass rushing ends with maybe one (Boyd) who will be able to consistently stop the run. Daniels is a beast and I'm sure will be fine if he was giving more responsibility as a true LDE in base 3-4, but that will limit his effectiveness on pass rushing downs. Maybe Jones or Worthy step up this season to allow him to play more base, I don't know. Who even knows if Raji will come to play this season. Whatever happens, the guys with their hands on the ground better be double teamed or making the tackle on running plays.

Injuries nagged Brad Jones all last season so I am hopeful he will bounce back. Hawk actually played pretty well last year. Latimore was up and down last year. Perhaps he’ll break out with another TC. Plus the Coaches are really talking up Barrington

I think Neal and Perry will be better at OLB and there’s also Bradford and Peppers. At least there are better options than Walden and Zombo. Matthew’s health is key.

Injuries nagged Datone Jones all last season so I am hopeful that with another TC he will make the leap which sophomore’s often make. Boyd really improved over last season and I see him as one base DE and hopefully Jones as the other. Troy Guion may help as a base DE. Not sure about Daniels as a run stopping DE? I think he’s filling a critical need for us now as Inside Rusher. Then there’s the rookie thornton and peppers.

The good news we have several young guys with promising potential mixed with Pro bowl vets Clay & Julius for leadership. We have a solid 2ndary. Add a hopefully effective new Scheme and get a break on injuries – D can be at least in top half.

Read the gree bay press gazette chat yesterday. Two thing that stood out was Franklin could be cut this off season nut it would be a good idea to put him on IR. Also Tolzein isn't eligible for PS.

Don't necessarily disagree, but there's not a lot of great talent on that side of the ball.

Perhaps Janis to the PS and add a defender?

I really don't see Worthy making the 53 over Thornton or even Guilon. He's had a major injury year and, frankly, he just isn't that good in a 3-4. I think he's got the right attitude but he's just better suited as a rushing end in a 4-3. I really never understood the pick. Hopefully, he proves me wrong.

Did Lattimore even sign his RFA tender? I think he's still a RFA.

Lattimore signing was announced April 30th.
