JS: Favre (Update: Not Coming to GB in 2014 - Pg 2)

Post#1 » by Thunder Muscle » Thu Jun 12, 2014 7:08 pm

Green Bay --- We interrupt today's Aaron Rodgers Q&A with a Brett Favre update.

Naturally.

The former Green Bay Packers quarterback made an appearance on SiriusXM today. Nothing ground-breaking but he did address a few topics for the first time that were interesting. Favre talked about his return to Lambeau Field as a Minnesota Viking, his relationship with Aaron Rodgers and what it'd take for him to suit up again.

A few running highlights from his interview...

On his career/how he left.. "I can't say that I have any regrets about my career. It happened the way it happened. Very proud of my career."
On his relationship with Green Bay... "The relationship is much better. It's just a matter of getting back up there. We're trying to figure out a game to come to."
On Aaron Rodgers... "I'm no idiot. I know there's always someone who's going to replace you. It was time to give him a shot. ...I have no ill feelings. I thought we got along well. Did what I could to help him along the way."
On returning to Lambeau Field as a Viking... "I never envisioned traveling from Appleton to Green Bay on a bus as an opponent. Never crossed my mind. ...It was an awesome experience to see it from the other end. The reception was not great, but it gave me goosebumps. It was a special place."
On coaching H.S. football... "It's been a blast. To not get paid was such a blessing...you just do it for fun. … I learned probably more than the kids did."
On if it was only the games on Sunday, if he'd play... "If they would promise not to hit me. …I don’t recover like I used to. I recovered so well for so long, I kind of took it for granted."
On if he's looking forward to his Hall of Fame induction... Yes and no. I say that with all due respect, the 'no' part. We kind of like the anonymity retirement has brought. …It’ll be a positive thing but it’ll also be a public thing. Our youngest daughter hates the limelight. She's very shy. So that won't be the atmosphere she's comfortable with. But it is such an honor. So I am looking forward to it."

Any thoughts on the game? I'm guessing it will be the Bears game b/c I just traded that game with my Uncle for the Vikings one. Ugh. I'm glad the fences are being mended. I was angry when he left, but have come full circle --- love the Gunslinger!

Would be hilarious if it was the Vikings game.

Does that mean it's happening this year? A jersey retirement ceremony?

All signs point to next year. OI course it could be this year but from what I hear next summer he will be inducted into the Packer HOF and then retire his number in the fall.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I think he shows up to a game this year, just so everyone officially gets the bad taste out of their mouths before the HOF induction and retiring of the jersey.

To be fair, from what you heard Adam Dunn was a Brewer too. :)

I think he shows up at game this year, gets that out of way, and then summer of 15 in Packers HOF & jersey retired in 2015. Per Chmura he was scheduled to be at game last year according to someone close to him but Favre is hesitant b/c of possibly being booed. I'd hope majority would respect what he did for the franchise but are bitter people yet.

What is the general opinion of Favre by Vikings fans? Revered? Indifferent? Sour?

Definitely not revered imo, he wasn't there long enough. I would say mostly positive but a lot of my Vikings fan friends have absolutely not forgiven him for single handedly losing that NFC Championship game against the Saints.

A lot of the die-hards in some way didn't like him from the start and, yeah, reached a breaking point after that Saints game. The casual fans thought it was the coolest thing in the world and still wear the jersey around and deify his short stay.

For the euphoria that he provided for most of 2009, I kind of figured the INT and god awful 2010 probably diminished some of his popularity ---- on top of being a thorn for 16 years with the Pack.

Its hard to say how the reaction will be. There are still bitter people out there, but not sure if they are the vocal minority. But then you have Ryan Longwell who essentially only made the "Applebees" crack towards Green Bay and it was probably 50/50 on boos when he did the "Roll Out the Barrel" last year in that Pittsburgh game.

I'm guessing they toss Favre in a box for the Patriots, Eagles or Atlanta game, show him on the screen, and that will be their litmus test. I don't think they will do anything early and probably not Bears b/c their tend to be a good portion of their fans that show up and they'll boo for sure. I would be surprised if the # is retired this year. I think they do that after the Packers HOF next summer.

That makes sense, have an "unofficial" appearance this year and do something official next year.

This seems like his best bet. I don't think people would boo him, at least I'd hope not. Had he someone won a Super Bowl with Minnesota, it might be a different story. Instead, he gave them the full Brett Favre experience, the massive highs and the crushing lows.

Favre will not have his jersey retired this season per Mark Murphy. Fear of fans booing appears to be a factor.

Really can't see many fans booing him when it is retired. The cheering will definitely drown out the boos.

I was one of the biggest conspiracy theorists hating his antics to push his way out of town by waffling every year.

I would not boo him now. I think everyone is over it. The Super Bowl got everyone to forget about the drama and the 5 years of buffer now has made everyone forget their anger.

Was super annoyed with him when he left and the way he did it. I could really care less now. I'm hoping he comes back sooner rather than later. One of, if not the best player in franchise history.

Any Packer fan who boos Favre at his jersey retirement ceremony should be subjected to watch every Packer game between Starr's retirement and Favre's first game. Twice.

Sidenote: why the hell did Mark Murphy publicly state the reason? Just say it isn't working out logistically.
