Were you OK with the Onside Kick?

The Packers had finally forced a punt on defense, the offense has great FP, the drive stalls but Crosby drills a 55 yard FG. It's 21-9 with 3+ minutes left in the half.

McCarthy then calls an onsides kick. It fails, and the Jets have great field Position.

Of course it's easy to say it was a bad call because it failed, but what's your thought on this call?

Personally, I'm OK with it. Trying to sneak another possession for the offense, and it's at an unexpected time, it made sense to me. He's done it a couple times before and it has worked. The more times we can get the offense the ball, the better. Especially knowing the Jets start the second half I understand it.

I don't mind if he pulls this out again in the future.

Loved it.

Hated not going for the fourth downs for the first two scores.

Yes I was ok with it. Didnt really need it but loved the aggressive call. Ok with all fg`s too.

No, it was completely stupid.

I get the mindset in calling it there. As late as it was in the half, and with how much we were still down at the time, you would think the Jets would have never seen it coming. But no, I wasn't OK with it. If the Jets score a TD or even a FG, all the momentum shifts right back in their favor as they got ball at half and honestly, they could've put the dagger in us.

Probably the riskiest call I've ever seen McCarthy make. But no, I wasn't OK with it.

No, felt like free points. If Daniels and Tramon don't make a huge play, it was likely a free 3 points and a momentum killer.

When you have a dominant defense like ours it is okay to take chances like this. :D

My feeling is if you are going to onside kick it, just go for it on 4th rather than kick a 56 yard FG.

Using the odds are the odds in our favor to make a 56 yarder and recover an onside kick or gain a few yards for the first down.

However, it worked out so I am fine now.

I thought it was a desperate call. I generally don't mind that type of aggressiveness. If we recovered it, it could have been a huge momentum boost. But, I also thought the risk was massive, especially being down so big so early. If the Jets scored there, it had the potential to snuff out any momentum we had begun to gain on our previous drive.

The fact that it worked out because of Tramon's pick is irrelevant to me. It would have also been irrelevant to me if we recovered it. I'm just judging the call based on the situation in the game at that moment, not based on the result. I won't say it was a terrible call, but I wouldn't have made it.

I didn't like it. I thought kicking a 55 yard FG instead of going for it on 4th and 5 was bad enough. Profound beat me to it, but that was exactly my line of thinking too.

I would have been ok with it if McCarthy had shown some consistency in his other calls.

If you're going to go for the onside kick, how do you not have the balls to go for it on 4th & short after a draw play on 3rd down?

I swear Mike can be downright bipolar in his in-game philosophy at points. I thought it was an unnecessary risk.

It didn't seem like the right time to do it, especially after not going for it on 4th down.

I was okay with it, actually thought we might have gone for an onside after the previous field goal.

The one call that really bothered me most was the run on third down and long when we settled for a FG. If you aren't going to go for it on 4th down you have to make a better attempt to get the first down.

The only problem I had with it is that I personally found it to be very predictable. I knew after they kicked the FG (which I wouldn't have done either), they were going to try to find a way to quickly get the ball back. Even though they ended up with an INT, I certainly didn't think their plan was going to be to try and force a turnover. Mike likes his surprise onside kicks, and it seemed like a lot of the Jets were ready for it on the return.

I think they would have had a better chance if they had just outright tried an onside kick, but I'm probably wrong. It really doesn't matter anyway. Seeing that team in the second half made me feel way better about what I saw in the first.

It was dumb.

We just came off of a stop, we had 3 timeouts and there was 3 minutes left. Just kick it off and stop them, even with a first down, you could get it back with a decent amount of time left with good field position.

Wow. Completely split 11/11. Wasn't expecting that. I thought it would be more like 60% against and 40% who were OK with it.

Lots of good perspectives. Appreciated everyone's opinion.
