Was Randall Cobb exposed?

Post#1 » by HKPackFan » Mon Sep 22, 2014 7:38 am

We let James Jones go in Free Agency without so much as a blink. We debated if we should give Cobb big money or Jordy big money.

We discussed how Cobb might be the next big thing.

Yet so far Cobb hasn't done much. Is the reason Rodgers always going to Jordy the first 2 games, is because Jordy is the only WR on this team that can get open?

Is the reason for many parts of 3 games that Rodgers is holding the ball FOREVER is because if Jordy is double teamed Cobb cannot get open?

Is that the simple formula to beat the Packers? Let your front line stop the run, double Jordy and no one will get open (even if you have the most depleted secondary in the NFL...Don't worry Cobb won't burn you, just double Jordy).

Is Cobb no better than a #3 slot receiver? He's not a guy you can count on down after down to get open, but just OK in tricky little plays to get him open in space (which we didn't even bother to do yesterday!!).

Was the formula that worked to have Jordy the #1 and if more attention was given to him, then James Jones was beating his one on one matchups? And if Jordy and JJ were being given too much attention, then Cobb found himself in favorable match ups and that made him productive? Add Finley to the picture and we had a 4 headed attack.

Take away JJ and Finley, and Cobb looks pedestrian at best.

The one advantage of watching a game in the stadium is the ability to see the WR's and see them run their routes and get open. On TV I can't tell. But I can see Rodgers looking....looking....looking...SACK or bad throw. What's he waiting for? Are we to think Rodgers is regressing or does he have NO WHERE to throw the ball, because he has nobody open.

Is the only way for Rodgers to get a completion is via an absolutely perfect throw within a 6 inch window and/or an insane body contorting catch by Jordy that only a few human beings on the planet can make regularly??

Boykin is garbage. He's pedestrian at best. He was already average to begin with, so to see him dropping balls and providing little else, he seems a terrible #3 WR. I'm ready to go with the rookie Adams who doesn't even know what the hell he's doing, but at least he can **** catch and run.

It seems the line of thinking was we can't break the bank on JJ, Jordy, Cobb...So let's pay Jordy, let JJ walk, and we can try to sign Cobb for a bigger deal next year. Well...Maybe we've seen Cobb is not much of a #1 WR, and maybe not even a #2 WR. Maybe he's too small to get separation?? I don't know, but he sure is heck isn't providing much for #12, as Rodgers..looks...looks...looks...and sees nothing.

I sure as heck miss JJ right now. And I will admit I thought Cobb was going to steup up and Boykin/Adams was going to adequately replace JJ. I was friggin wrong. Minus Jordy this WR core looks like garbage. Maybe Adams and Janis will be great in 2 years, but wth are we going to do now?

Let's put this in the post game thread
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.
