Vikings Leadup

Post#1 » by FAH1223 » Mon Sep 29, 2014 4:19 am

Thursday Night Game

Our run defense is suck. Any NTs of note sitting on their couch? Vikings can still run without AD. Bridgewater looks very good.

Won't be pushovers. Pack should win at home.

I expect the packers to win, but I'm concerned about the Vikings attacking the middle of our soft Defense.

Of course I'm worried about them pounding us against the run which we are probably the worst rushing defense in the league at the moment.

Also I'm worried about the screens, drag routes across the middle, and short dump offs. They will attack our LB's and that's a weakness. When you run the screen on our D it's an automatic 10+ yards. When you do a drag route across the middle it's a minimum 8 yard gain. Dump offs are 4-5 yards at minimum but easily turn into 10 yard gains.

The Vikings yesterday were in full west coast offense mode and it worked. I don't have faith in Lattimore and Hawk (although still prefer Lattimore over Brad Jones), in being able to protect the middle.

I noticed Morgan B. was often playing near the line of scrimmage today to help in the Run D, but it didn't help much.

I noticed Hayward much more in the second half compared to House, not sure if that was coz House was falling down too much or what.

Again, I'm expecting the Pack to win at home, but I hope our D has a game plan to protect that soft middle. I expect the vikings to attack it almost every down.

Although it was in a dome, last year we really kicked the **** out of Minnesota when we had Rodgers. Now they're minus Peterson. Bridgewater might not be able to go on his ankle on a short week either.Should be a good game. Can't wait for Thursday.

Coaches have to do something about our interior D. Don't be so damn slow try guys who made the roster but don't play. Please more Pennel and some Barrington.

If we stay 3-4 on 1st down and not sign anyone new I'd have Pennel at NT and Boyd & Guion at DE and Perry instead of Pepper.

We aren't rebuilding we're making a SB run! And signing 2 old guys on 1 yr contracts doesn't threaten our future. I'd use open roster spot to either - get a veteran MLB who maybe can squeeze a another year out at a higher level than we are getting now from our ILBs OR sign Pickett. IF Jolly is medically cleared I would sign him as well. I'd place rookie Goodson on PS to make room if needed.

ON FIRST DOWN ONLY -
I try going 4-3 with Pickett & Pennel at DT and Boyd & Jolly at DE (if their healthy / or Guion if not). Those would be our best guys against the run. Sure we would not generate much pass rush if they throw on 1st down but I'd rather put pressure on our talented DBs.

I'd give Peppers the down off as we need to limit his snaps to stay fresh for pass rush anyway. I'd play Perry on strong side, Hawk or Lattimore or Vet FA at middle and Matthews on weak side.

On 2nd & long I'd go w/ our current nickel alignment & personnel with Daniels & Jones inside

If its 2nd and short I go Pennel & Jolly inside with Peppers & Matthews as OLB

Our defense has played well one out of four games. With them playing as poorly as they did last game, there are no easy games right now. Offense needs to come out and put on a clinic again. I expect a win, but I hope they don't take this one for granted.

Also, I think Clinton-Dix is eventually going to be a stud. Think TT finally nailed a first round defensive guy.

I agree. He's had a few moments where he has understandably looked like a rookie, but many more moments where he has shined. He has stud written all over him. Looks good in #21.

Their offense is a lot of short passes and crossing routes that turn into big gains with YAC. They'll probably use Patterson the same way SEA used Harvin against us. Might be a shootout.

Rodgers shreds another defense and wins something like 35-21. Defense needs to get back to what they did against Detroit and after the first quarter against the Jets. Love the turnovers they are getting though. Think that's five or six in the last three games now.

Rodgers should put on a clinic against a weak Vikings secondary. Offense should do fine, but I'm thinking this should also be a game where the running game can establish itself.

Obviously, the defense will determine how much we win by. Bridgewater is a rookie, but you can't count on two Jay Cutler interceptions to bail you out every game. The defense needs to get off the field. None of these 8-minute drives resulting in TDs.

If Matt **** Asiata runs for 100+ against us....... :banghead:

Also, really want to win the next 3. At New Orleans is really tough regardless, and want to go into the bye at 5-3 or better.

Road teams generally struggle on Thursday night. I'm hoping we'll continue that trend. Then again, the Vikes don't have to travel that far.

Cordarelle Patterson will probably be doing a lot of that Percy Harvin-Ashlon Jeffrey stuff jet sweeping into the backfield. Boy we struggled with that vs Sea and Jeffrey got a TD on a clever reverse pivot off that action.

I might guess a shootout, but it feels like every game will be a shootout if our defense stays so soft in the middle and our offense keeps doing that fast no-huddle thing. Granted, we might score a lot of points against not-great defenses, but can a defense play 35-40 min a game all season? And what happens when we play a great defense and we don't score much in the no-huddle?

Hopefully as the weather gets colder and fields get slower, the run game will take off and TOP won't be such a mismatch each week.

I wish our DBs would jam the receivers and the ends would chip the TEs. Cutler completed 13 out of 19 in the middle of the field, Stafford 6 out of 9, Wilson 10 out of 11. Geno hit more on the outside but he was only 50% for the day in total.

I don't know where to even start on the run defense. I can only say to play the MLBs closer to the LOS to more effectively plug the gaps so they can force the RB to be delayed in his cuts. This will hopefully allow someone to make the play when they realize what's going on. Only problem is the linemen are getting taken out one-on-one and the OL is getting to the LBs easily. Maybe they won't be able to get to the 2nd level fast enough :dontknow: ? I guess play Pennel more than 22 snaps and see if he helps. They just need one guy to command a double team in there.

Start a win streak now. Very winnable few games. Vikings at home, at Miami, vs carolina at NO. Should get 3 of these games possibly 4 if NO keeps playing as bad as they are.

New Orleans at the Superdome is almost like playing @Seattle. New Orleans at home (outdoors - disregarding last night) is barely tougher than if the Jets or Miami came to town.

That's going to be extremely tough but their defense looks horrendous this year. I'm figuring that'll be comparable to yesterday's game, minus the INT's from the opponent.
