Good coach. We all have 20/20 hindsight but I'm fine with it

I have no problem giving him a contract extension.

Yeah, me too. I just hope that if the defense falters down the stretch or in the playoffs, that Capers is held accountable finally.

"Thanks Aaron" - Mike McCarthy, after receiving contract extension

I never understand this line of thinking. Rodgers mechanics went through such a huge overhaul under McCarthy that it is foolish to not give him a lot of credit for the QB he is today.

Agreed. I think he's neither as good nor as bad as some make him out to be. I think he's a good coach and I'm cool with this move.

But yeah, I'd like to see Capers hit he road.

I wouldn't think Capers is tied to MM anymore with the new extension in place. At least I hope not. At any rate, if we get better talent on the defense, then Capers will look like a magician.

Again, I like McCarthy as a "Head Coach." Just not as a play caller/game manager. The extension is fine. Predictable really. How do you fire a guy with his W-L record? You don't. Its never been done. And will never be. But lets not pretend that any one of a hundred current or ex-NFL Head Coaches wouldn't have received a similar extension if Aaron Rodgers was their quarterback. McCarthy is not special. He was at the right place at the right time. Good for him. Now go out coach someone, beat a team you're not supposed to, win a big game when your QB isn't perfect, stop being a smug, stubborn, prick, and appreciate just how lucky you are. If this organization goes 30+ years with Favre and Rodgers manning the most important position in professional sports, and only end up with two world championships to show for it, to take a phrase from "bros" everywhere, "EPIC FAIL."

But is Roenicke still pushing all the right buttons?

I'm fine with this. Of course, there are always guys out there that I wouldn't mind taking a long look at for HC, but I think MM's track record speaks for itself. I think you could make an argument about MM v. Holmgren in terms of long term success.

The players like him, which is good. Other than the Favre/Rodgers saga there hasn't really been any reports of rifts in the locker room. He's smarter than a lot of coaches, which for the most part is good. But sometimes he's too smart for his own good. There's been some inexplicable play calls, replay challenges, and baffling game plans. His abandonment of the screen game and using the RB a check down is disappointing. I'm hoping Lacy's 120+ yards receiving vs. the Saints is an eye-opener and he gets utilized more in the passing game.
