Whoa, didn't expect that. Wonder what brought about those changes. Seems like a big promotion for Bennett though they did move him around from RB to WR.

Why not just give duties to Clements? Why the rearranging of roles?

It makes sense. More changes coming, but can't confirm those now.

From 2 sources: #Packers coach Mike McCarthy looking at different possibilities w/ his offensive/play calling staff but nothing finalized.

I cannot confirm the @WDUZ report, but it does sound like McCarthy is looking at several different options.

Thank you sweet baby jesus.
This is a HUGE win for the organization.
I've bitched about MM's playcalling for years, specifically in the playoffs. Hopefully this frees him up to actually coach the team.

It's now a bit tougher for other teams to come for Bennett and Clements.

Reading between the lines on Silverstein's tweets it seems like it is less about MM giving up playcalling and more about him being able to coach and keep the team in order during games as a reaction to everything falling apart in the NFCCG

Wonder if they thought about asking Dom to groom a successor/retire. He's 65 and the defense hasn't been great.Thought they were a lot better this year and don't know who else they could get but they seem to want to shake things up.

Super excited to hear about how much smarter every fan is than Tom Clements next year when it comes to play calling.

Although I've appreciated his demeanor and the way he's prepared his team, I've never liked McCarthy calling the plays. But I also thought he was too stubborn to ever take a good look in the mirror. If this major change does indeed take place, props to McCarthy. Its time to stop wasting Aaron Rodgers' prime years.

Dom probably looks to his guy LeBeau and thinks he can coach into his 70s...

I agree, this isn't a case of our offense needing a change, it's a case of our TEAM needing a change. A head coach simply has too much going on during a game and needs to focus. It's a big jump for Bennett, hopefully he's up to it.

That's what I'm thinking.

Curious to see how this turns out. I like really McCarthy but he's had his struggles as an in game coach. This should give us a true measure of him as an in game manager without the distraction of calling the plays.

I'm not sure how to feel about this. It sounds like a lot of people weren't happy with his play calling but I wasn't one of them (except for da Kuhn).

I don't think this move is being made because of Mikes play calling which all and all has been very good. It was made so he could concentrate more on overall game management.
Now I don't expect the offense to change much with clements calling the plays and Rodgers continuing to audible a ton. They've all been here a long time and aren't going to reinvent the wheel.

I don't like to nitpick specific plays but I do hope Clements has a more killer instinct in putting teams away when we're up. In theory, we should be able to grind out wins when were up, but have to be flexible enough to adjust when teams are daring us to pass and to gash them. I could see this being a nice upgrade from a play calling perspective.
I am all for the idea of MM being able to focus on coaching in game. As far as Bennett to OC, I'm not too concerned at all if he's up for it. As long as MM, Clements and Rodgers are still in place, any OC's input will be well below those guys.

I wonder how Rodgers feels about this move.

Willing to try it. At least the organization is not satisfied with the status quo, including McCarthy himself. That is a good thing.
Agree this is more of a TEAM change, like MD says.
