Q. It's early. It's June. But what's your early feel on this team? You've always had a good pulse of the guys around you. How does this team compare to previous ones?

A. We always feel like we're going to be in the mix but offensively this is an exciting year when you look at everybody who's coming back. We were able to re-sign Bulaga, John Kuhn and Randall Cobb — that's big for us. The way we played last year, John was an integral part of our offense, especially in our three-receiver, two-running back sets. John did an incredible job blocking for Eddie (Lacy) and James (Starks). That's got to continue. When you look at adding a young guy from Stanford (Ty Montgomery) to the mix, you've got Jared Abbrederis back, you have Jeff Janis in his second year. I look for those guys to have more opportunities. I think Davante Adams could be a star. He has all the makings athletically and intelligence-wise to be a big-time player.

It'd be fun to get back to the kind of rooms we had when we were doing the Sports Illustrated cover with Jermichael (Finley), Jordy, Greg (Jennings), Donald (Driver) and James (Jones). Those were some pretty special groups right there. I think we have that potential. Obviously, Jordy and Randall had huge years last year, and the balance we had with Eddie playing so well and James Starks being a great addition. Offensively, it's just continuing to improve on those things. The offensive line was the most important part—keeping them healthy. Defensively, we're always looking for ways to do things differently and grow. I think those guys have had a great off-season and done some things. Mike has really helped going over there and taking a lot of the knowledge he has from coaching offensive football for so long and challenging those guys to do things a little differently and make it even more difficult for the offense to figure out what they're trying to do. That's really going to help us.

I have to say, I haven't seen enough of Adams to get where he's getting all of this praise from. He basically had four or five games where he had more than four receptions. Most games were 1-2. And even in those big games, his catches weren't impressive. His speed wasn't dynamic. His physicality didn't pop up. He just happened to be the open guy.

That isn't to say that he doesn't have talent or ability. He's a strong guy with good hands who is ball aware with good route running. He's like James Jones without fumbilitis.

But he didn't pop out to me. I'm not sold on him, yet.

I'm sold on him being a solid receiver, but it's the talk of him being this freakish weapon that I'm not sold on yet. He looks strong as hell and he can clearly get up (dat between the legs 360) but I'd like to see it manifest itself on the field.
