The backup LT situation

This is a bad situation we have guys.

Bakhtiari has a knee issue and wasn't good vs NE last week.

Barclay was an average at best RT and he legit cannot play LT.

Moving Bulaga to LT Isn't a good idea as he tore his knee up after the initial switch.

I think this is potentially another position TT has neglected that will cost dearly just like safety and QB in 2013.

And we know he won't sign a veteran. I'm shook of any of the prospects here!

You lost me at QB in 2013. We have the best QB on the planet, not sure what exactly you want him to address.

We had no NFL QB on the roster behind #12 in 2012 and 2013.

And it was terrible when #12 got hurt trotting out Wallace who came off the street before the season and Tolzien who was on the practice squad with no experience with the team.

TT has drafted a ton of tackles, including two in the first round. They may not have a panned out like we'd hoped, but he definitely hasn't neglected the position. Only position I think he's legit neglected is MLB.

Josh Walker should be the backup at both tackle spots. He's been decent.

I think we'd just swing Bulaga to LT and then roll with Barclay and Walker at RT. I'm willing to give Barclay another couple preseason games to get his legs back under him before summarily dismissing him.

Why are so many people in panic mode? They haven't played a game yet.

If McCarthy knows anything it's how to coach a team with significant injuries. Feels like last year was the first without tons of injuries in a long time. We know how that ended. This year Jordy is the only one confirmed out for the season. Championships are about overcoming these obstacles and a lot of luck. Not just about one guy.

Unless it's Aaron Rodgers. He gets injured for a significant time and they are done.

I don't think people are in panic mode, but if you have any football sense you are in "concerned" mode - Barclay is so god awful it's amazing he is still donning a NFL jersey. He has been bad in both practice, camp, and games. I would be trying everything else at this point.

You talk about them being "done" if Rodgers is hurt, protecting his blind side when he is passing should have been a little higher priority. There is NO WAY he survives this season if Barclay is spending any extended time at LT.

Yeah. No one is in panic mode.

It's the second game in preseason.

He's the new Barclay. I feel back for Barclay, he looks like he probably should have not practiced, gone on PUP, kept trying to get his feet back. He can't slide and he looks tentative to anchor. Not ready. I think he probably hangs onto his roster spot and they give him some time as long as they don't have any more line injuries. But he's walking a thin line. Saying he's struggling insults people who struggle.

Yeah for his own good they need to move him from lt. Need to see if he can make the team at another position. Walker? tretter? Need to move to plan b

Agreed he is so damn awful at LT right now let him go back to his comfort zone as a right guard or tackle and salvage a roster spot.

Why is Jake Long still a FA?

Right. I'd like to know if there are any vets out there.

This position could be a problem if Bahkitari can't go on opening day.

I think longs legs are shot. I mean hell Marshall Newhouse is projected to start for the Giants that just goes to show how little oline depth there us league wide.

I'd take Bruce Wilkerson over Don Beebe iow.

Anybody know off the top if Long tore the same ACL twice, or was it each leg?

ETA: Looked it up. Same leg. That explains it.

He's been cleared to play. Long's still out there because he wants to be out there. He knows that the longer he waits the more injuries will pile up and the more money he can extract.

Not taking La'El Collins where he fell still boggles my mind. I understand wanting to stay away from character risks in the top rounds, but to me he was always a no brainer pick for us.

Character risk and someone that may (even though he wasn't) had been connected to murdering his girlfriend are two different things. If he isn't cleared, congratulations, you just drafted a murderer...Good luck with that PR nightmare.

As I recall there was no information on this at the time, and he wasn't even going in to talk to the police to clear his name until after the draft.

That aside, I had thought Walker was their new pet project and has looked decent. Is that not the case? I haven't been paying enough attention to the back up battles this year.

Maybe it's just me but backup LT really isn't bothering me. Unless people have heard something I haven't I'm looking at Bakhtiari be held out out as a lil more precautionary then most people I guess and on top of that the backup plan is to slide Bulaga over if something more serious occurs and then Tretter as the #3 option.

Barclay being over there is just a preseason mixing and matching experiment to see what he's got over there but it's not like I'm concerned about him playing there come the regular season cause he won't be
