Carolina Leadup

Need to move on after last night's debacle. We go on the road to face another top defense.

Last season we got whipped twice on the road, at Seattle 38-16 and at New Orleans 44-23 so last nights game is not the end of the world. A similar result in this game and there will be a lot of concern.

In the grand scheme losing at Denver means almost nothing at the end of the season, it won't effect any tie breakers. Next week against Carolina on the other hand matters quite a bit, beating them and having a head to head tiebreaker against another team that will be competing for home field advantage would be huge. I expect a bounceback of sorts mostly because it would be impossible to play worse. Really concerned about Shields status for the game and can our WR get some separation, seems unlikely as its been a problem before last week.

I'll be traveling out to Charlotte for this one. I'm expecting a huge bounce back. Greg Olsen scares me with the way Capers defenses seem disinterested in covering the middle of the field. But they have no WRs, so if we let Cam shred us through the air I have to start wondering if it's the same old **** with this defense and that the first 5 games were a mirage.

I think the offense finally gets back on track and we can actually field a balanced attack.

W 24-13

I will be interested in this one. i think it will be more ball control type game. I just dont think the panthers have the WRS to push the pedal like the broncos did. Olsen is going to go nuts against the packers DB's and LB's.

I'll chalk the Denver game up as one of those ''duds'' a team might have a over the course of a 16 game regular season if the Packers show up vs the Panthers.

The Packers don't even have to win, just show up.

Asking the Packers to win a game vs a playoff caliber team on the road might be too much to ask or expect, simply showing up and being competitive on the road vs a good team would be a big step for them.

How can you say this? We have the #1 QB in football and were a preseason favorite to win it all. We should expect to win. In essence your giving our idiot coach a pass. The mindset of both the fans and the coaching staff should be you are going to win every game. Of course that's likely not possible but apparently its now ok to accept losing. McCarthyism has now infiltrated our fan base. I guess the fans all ready realize he is an idiot but since they have supported him through all his stupid blunders aka NFC Championship game last year, Last Sundays game, the Favre Fiasco and on an on an on. Wake up people. You making Vince Lombardi roll over so much in his grave that it might cause a small earth quake.

I expect a loss here. This team just really struggles against physical teams on the road.

Thought this game was at Lambeau

But it's not

And we're playing an undefeated team with a great defense on their home turf

Sounds like an L just like last week, @ SEA, @ BUF, etc..

McGinn ripping RR (rightfully so)

Week after week, Richard Rodgers doesn't execute his block and two or three plays run amok. Can teammates have confidence in him? The Packers feel compelled to keep using Rodgers on almost every snap (51 of a possible 53 Sunday) because they apparently don't feel Justin Perillo (six) has enough horsepower to block and Kennard Backman (inactive) must not be ready. Despite all this, it was the Broncos, with a better stable of tight ends than the Packers, that traded for San Francisco's Vernon Davis on Monday. The teams swapped sixth- and seventh-round draft choices in 2016, and the 49ers will receive a sixth in '17. On the second sack, Rodgers motioned across and was in front of OLB DeMarcus Ware. When he set too far inside, Ware had an easy sack-fumble-safety. In the run game, Rodgers either missed or was trashed twice by backup OLB Lerentee McCray on two runs that went nowhere.

And on the other Rodgers:

Let's be honest. No matter how good the defense is, it should be impossible for a player as great as Aaron Rodgers to play 60 minutes and pass for 77 yards. The rules favoring passing, the head coach favoring passing and his 11 years of experience should preclude such a thing happening. The protection was more than adequate. You see whiff sacks all the time around the league, but there was almost none of that. Sometimes it just comes down to standing tall in the pocket and following through to make a great throw. If the lick comes, so be it. All this bouncing around must make receivers and blockers a little confused. Jones and Adams really aren't separating-type receivers. To win road games against teams with elite defenses makes it almost incumbent upon the quarterback to throw people open. Interceptions hurt passer rating but they don't automatically spell defeat. Sometimes they're better than a punt. Rodgers looked deep a lot but couldn't pull the trigger. There was enough room for someone with his extreme arm talent to make the spectacular play and thereby galvanize a stagnant offense. He's the face of the franchise for moments like this. Rodgers was responsible for the third sack holding the ball for 5 seconds when a check-down receiver was in clear view. He overthrew Cobb on what might have been a 77-yard TD. He made a poor throw to Richard Rodgers on a free play that could have been a 7-yard TD. Many times he has wiggled out of sacks by flicking the ball away on the way down. This time, it cost his team a lost fumble and a safety.

Good analysis. It's actually by Andy Benoit.

I find it hard to believe that our massive offensive struggles and us changing playcallers in the offseason is coincidence. I'm not expert on the intricacies of our offense, but I refuse to believe that losing Jordy has impacted our offense this badly.

Need to figure it out and figure it out now.

Richard Rodgers makes me long for the days of Donald Lee at TE. He's been a massive disappointment this year. But I think we all knew coming in that he just isn't a guy who's going to stretch the field.

This offense really misses Quarless.

I like McGinn's game breakdown he always does. He literally re-watches every play, uses the coaches video, which is available to anyone on NFL.com) and points things out you don't see watching the game live.

Obviously losing Jordy hurts. He and AR were a great combo. But I also think sometimes AR's aversion to picks hurts. It's ok to take a deep shot down the field once in a awhile. A 40 yard pick on 3rd down is as good as a punt and keeps the defensive somewhat honest. AR only does that on free plays.

Yeah, Dick Rod has probably been the biggest disappointment. He just can't handle being a full time TE. Quarless is a great blocker and enough of a threat in the passing game to not give away the offense we are running, whereas Dick Rod only seems useful in passing plays. He was a nice target late last year and even early this season, but it has been a really rough stretch since Q went down.

Tight end blocking is critical and RR is absolutely horrible in that regard. It's definitely a position of need going forward.

Think we've got to get more speed on the field offensively. Re-watching some stuff, it looks like Adams still isn't pushing off well and there were a lot of plays where he didn't even look like he was trying to get separation. Jones is not fast. Cobb isn't slow, but he's hardly a burner, either. The only guy who consistently has gotten separation is Montgomery, and that's been more coming out of breaks than down the field. Think Janis has to get a crack at this thing. He's the only guy we have who has shown the ability to outrun coverage. I really thought they'd come out of the bye having made that determination, but hopefully they still do, or bring somebody else in who can really run.

A second TE who could just run down the seam and turn LBs around would have been nice -- crazy how little Vernon Davis went to Den for.

Good article. One issue I have is that crossing routes he's proposing. I seem to recall that the Packers were a team that created many natural 'pick' or crossing routes and the league was going to crack down on that. So aren't the Packers already sort of doing that? The 'man-beater' formations he's speaking to?

I do agree that Denver, just like the 49ers of several years ago created a match up nightmare for the Packers.

Yeah, this was already touched on, but yeah it wasn't King. Peter King could not write this sort of analysis as he's too busy writing about the lack of leadership that he assumes Cam Newton to have off of his facial gestures/mannerisms and other important things such as that.

(not ripping you, I think Peter King is probably the worst writer/personality out there).
