Woodson to retire at the end of season
Via the NFL Network Woodson will retire at the end of the season.
I think this would be a good place to share your favorite Woodson memory or highlight. I've also posted a poll on if number should be retired.
IMO he played here for more years than White, won a defensive MVP and was the leader of a championship defense. Now HaHa was already given woodson's 21, so I believe managements decision has already been made.

9 years ago, Charles Woodson spent 8 weeks on the FA market after 2 injury-plagued so-so seasons. No one thought then he’d be a HOFer.

Great player. NFL Hall of Famer, Packers Hall of Famer. No to retiring his number. White changed the whole direction of the franchise.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Re: Woodson to retire at the end of season
One of my favorite all time NFL players. I've always liked the number #21. And I had to suffer through years of Brent fumblewood having that number.
To see Woodson take that jersey # to unparalleled heights has been amazing.
His speech was as iconic as it gets.
No one specific play or game. I just remember at times he took over a ballgame. He would singlehandedly change everything with an incredible individual effort.
I also loved the handshake he had the DB's doing after a great play. All business. Hahahaha.
At some point going to watch some replay videos of his and shed a few tears.

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I think his number should eventually be retired. 2nd greatest defensive player in the history of the NFL's most storied franchise, and arguably the greatest all-around DB to ever take the field. People will say Reggie's effect off-the-field was just as important as his production on it, but I'd also say that Chuck was just as good of an ambassador for the game.
The success and consistent greatness he had on the field at a position were guys usually retire/decline in their early 30s is nothing short of remarkable.

I agree with eventually retiring the number.

There is no chance Woodson gets his number retired with all of the Packers hall of famers out there. Not as ridiculous as the talk of Driver getting his number retired a couple of years ago though. He will get his name on the ring of honor like the rest of the hall of famers.

The Packers only have 6 retired numbers despite the numerous great players that have played for the team. The Bucks have 8 lol

Re: Woodson to retire at the end of season
I think he is my favorite Packer ever. I had never seen someone dominate the game from that position like he did. Should the number be retired? Imo, yes. Will it be? Hell no.
F*** Marc Davis, f*** Tim Donaghy and f*** David Stern as a staff, record label and as a mothaf**kin crew......and if you wanna be down with Stern then F*** YOU TOO!!! Stu Jackson f*** you too.....all you mothaf**kas F*** YOU TOO!!!!

Re: Woodson to retire at the end of season
I wouldn't be opposed to it by any stretch, I love the guy. But I don't think it's happening.
If he spent the majority of his career here, I think it would've been far more likely. He did turn into a HOF player while he was in Green Bay, but like its been already said, there's plenty of HOF's in the NFL HOF that don't have their number retired by the Packers.

Re: Woodson to retire at the end of season
Very few players can have "(insert one of two team names here) Legend" before his name and not sound weird. Packers or Raiders legend is equally fitting for him and felt you could say either team felt like his team. 11 with Oakland, 7 with GB. 4x pro bowler with each team. Drafted and rookie of the year for Oakland, resurrected career and defensive player of the year in GB.

Re: Woodson to retire at the end of season
Anytime a defensive player has the ability to take over a game I find it an extraordinary and an incredible accomplishment vs an offensive player who has the ball in their hands either every snap (qb) or sometimes 20-40 snaps a game (rb).
It's just such a rare ability for an individual to have such a large impact on the game when they are on the defensive side of the ball it just blows my mind what he was able to do.
Sir Charles will always be one of my favs.

Re: Woodson to retire at the end of season
NFL teams can only retire so many numbers because of the size of their roster. If we were talking about a basketball team or some other sport with a smaller roster size then yes he should have his number retired.

Random thoughts: are single digit numbers with a zero before it eligible in the NFL? What do they do when roster sizes are huge at the beginning of the year, are their some duplicates?

Yeah, I couldn't help but thinking it should of happened at Lambeau. Oh well, as they say, the MD Jennings era waits for no man.

Not just as a Woodson moment, but probably my favorite Packers moment all time as far as not on the field moments.

I believe there are duplicates, one to an offensive player and one to a defensive player.

He is a class act and was great for the Packers, but is a career Raider, unfortunately.
