Also, UW only beats Colorado with a freshman qb by a field go or something, does that change anything?

Maybe if we blew out PSU we would have a shot at jumping them. Today I finally discovered how weak their non-conference schedule was. Just pitiful.

Second to last among all FBS teams. Seriously brutal.

I'm totally okay with this. Still care more about the Big Ten than the national picture and I don't really think there should be a 2-loss team in the playoffs. If that team would upset Bama, I'd still vote Bama for the title if that's what it comes down to. The national title isn't really a thing to me because there's not nearly enough standardization for it to mean much and you can't play enough games to really decide on the relative order of the conferences, let alone the individual teams. Recruiting, budgets, academic standards, and schedules vary wildly. Even though they're going to do it by a mini-tournament this year, to me it still has little more value than just a bunch of writers and pundits and coaches voting for which team had the best season, which is all it was all along. The playoffs just give them more data to compare. Wisconsin was probably out of the picture when they lost their 2nd game, and I'm still just as captivated by their season as I was any other time they were in the Rose Bowl picture.

No talk about Zaire potentially grad transferring to Wisconsin? How would that make Hornibrook feel?

Probably not great - but unless he's really that pissed, he's probably still better off "sitting out" his year and staying at UW and still getting 2 years than sitting out a year somewhere unfamiliar.

I don't see Zaire completely beating out Horni, but maybe taking Houston's spot as a duel starter.

It's kinda hard to compare given that Zaire really doesn't have a whole lot for stats to compare with. Zaire has only thrown half the passes that Horni has thrown, but Zaire did it over 3 years and in a totally different offense.

Zaire has: Basically the same completion %, 8.3 YPA vs. 6.9 YPA for Horni, no INTs.

It's hard to calculate rushing stats since sacks count as negative rushing yards in college, but Zaire obviously is an upgrade there. Horni effectively has 0 career rushing yards and Zaire has 235 yards on "72 carries" but I'm too lazy to find out how many sacks there were and how many yards were taken off of that.

Obviously apples and oranges to compare them, though. Zaire was in a much better offense to put up passing numbers, of course.

Trying to wrap my head around Kiffin to FAU. Surely he could've had a better job elsewhere.

It's actually not a terrible move for him. His goal in the long run is obviously to coach at one of the premier programs out there. He probably looked at a guy like Tom Herman and realized that he didn't need to take a head coaching job at a Power 5 school in order to get to that point. Sure, he can go to a middling program in a Power 5 school and try to swing with the big boys, but he'd likely get smashed and that'll end his chances for good. If he goes to FAU and turns them into a contender in Conference USA - which is a much easier thing to do - he'll be shortlisted for big time jobs all over the country.

Agree - no reason to go to a middling P5 school and run the risk of getting trampled while trying to turn them around and then wasting 5 more years. It isn't a completely analogous comparison to Bielema, but I don't think Bielema has done a poor coaching job at Arkansas and he has gotten trampled.

Recruiting the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area, even if like 15th in the pecking order (behind some B10 teams even) is not necessarily a bad thing.

Looks like pure speculation. Chryst doesn't seem like an NFL guy to me and I don't see him leaving what is as close to a dream job as Wisconsin can be for the Rams dumpster fire. A bad team that sold its future for a QB that looks terrible.

I also see some other college coaches that had good years all whispered in the Rams search. It all may make sense when they get raises from their respective schools..
