Re: Cotton Bowl Thread - Badgers/Directional Michigan School
Hard to know how good of a win that is given WMU's schedule. They did beat a couple lesser B1G teams on the road. So there's that. Seems like about beating Iowa on a neutral field. It's another pseduo conference win on the season. They could have laid an egg after the collapse in the Championship game.
From a selfish perspective, hopefully Watt stays. But in his shoes I'd declare and I think he should. He's a force.

Don't want to get too far ahead but if everyone who can leave comes back next year, we might have a decent shot at the playoffs.
Schedule isn't strong but it's not so weak that it would hurt us in the eyes of the committee and our toughest game, Michigan is at home.

Western Michigan is the luckiest team alive. I have no clue how they only lost by 8.

That was an exasperating game.
1. They fumble five times and recover each one.
2. They throw up a prayer on 4th down that is somehow magically caught.
3. They go on multiple 10 plus play time consuming drives where the Badgers defense just couldn't get off the field.
4. Our pass rushers repeatedly had their QB dead for a sack, but he kept weaseling out of them.

I didn't know Fumagalli has only four fingers on his left hand. He doesn't have a left index finger, after it was amputated as a child.
Kind of amazing that his hands are as good considering that limitation.

TJ Watt is likely going pro according to reports.

Watt officially announced it. He's leaving a year early.
Bummer. I'll never begrudge a guy for leaving early in this sport, but he'll be a big loss for a pass rush that's also losing Beigel.

The good thing is that Dooley and Connelly stepped up and made this look at least promising for the overall LB depth next year with Orr and Cichy coming back. Will Cichy move back outside? They got a highly-regarded juco knowing that Watt may go, Zach Baun is supposedly promising out there as well. Griffin Grady could also step in. Should at least be some options even if we don't have 2 sure-fire mid/high NFL picks playing OLB next year. I'm also not mentioning a transfer they have from Alabama that sat out a year at OLB.
They have a ton of bodies and I'd assume we get at least 1 really good pass rusher/edge player out of that, perhaps more.

Hard for Watt to improve his draft stock by staying another year. And of course the injury risk. It will be interesting to see what round he goes in.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

So is there still a good chance we'll have another top defense?

Lots of uncertainty but I'd say that there's a good chance of the defense being above average at the very least.
