My best friend's a Domer. Lots of talk about Nelson being the best guard prospect available since Mike Iupati. Still...I think I'm with Mags and MCG.

Yeah, a Guard doesn’t help tilt the field, which is what you should be looking for when drafting as high as 14. Albert Haynesworth, Polamalu, Vilma, DeMarcus Ware, Merriman, Ngata, Revis, Orakpo, Malcom Jenkins, Earl Thomas, JPP, Fletcher Cox, Sheldon Richardson, Aaron Donald, etc. all taken in the 12-15 range recently.

They need to get a defensive difference-maker here.

Also worth noting that according to the draft chart, our TJ Lang comp could move us up to 12.

After their rookie contracts top guards want tackle money. No Thanks
And that's not even the biggest reason not to go guard

If the Bengals wanted to move down from the 12th pick, our comp 3rd should get it done according to the draft value chart.

We have to find an Edge rusher
We have to find yet another CB
We need youth at WR
Lance Kendricks is our starting TE
Morgan Burnett may be leaving

Gute needs to find starters or future starters with our 1,2,3,3. Giving up a 3 to move up 2 spots in this particular draft would be a waste of valuable resources. There is no Reggie White or Lawrence Taylor

ya im not giving up a 3 to move 2 spots unless its someone you really really want but even then its a big risk i think its more likely we move back a couple

Oh man, just had a pretty ideal Fanspeak draft; traded down with Buffalo so they could get a QB and;

21: R1P21 EDGE HAROLD LANDRY
BOSTON COLLEGE
22: R1P22 EDGE MARCUS DAVENPORT
UTSA
45: R2P13 WR JAMES WASHINGTON
OKLAHOMA STATE
85: R3P21 CB QUENTON MEEKS
STANFORD
88: R3P24 C FRANK RAGNOW
ARKANSAS
101: R3P37 CB HOLTON HILL
TEXAS
116: R4P14 TE TROY FUMAGALLI
WISCONSIN
152: R5P13 OT NICK GATES
NEBRASKA
173: R5P34 S SIRAN NEAL
JACKSONVILLE ST
175: R5P36 G WYATT TELLER
VIRGINIA TECH
177: R5P38 WR EQUANIMEOUS ST. BROWN
NOTRE DAME

I will admit to the OL guys just being best available at picks I wanted to add OL. Those first three picks though absolutely transform this team and I like adding a couple of really big CB. Edge position should be a big strength for Pettine to work with and snagged some great WR and TE pieces for Big Mac and Philbin to play with.

I'm starting to think Cleveland should take Barkley one. Let em whichever qb go two. Let indy take chubb then take the best qb whom they like. Would give them a stud rb and qb to build around.

Also with a qb heavy draft I think one drops. What would it take for the packers to trade down if a team like Buffalo wants to move up for a qb?

I like Vea or Davenport at 14 if we go DL/Edge and would love either Roquan or Evans if we go LB. those are pretty much the only 4 1st rounders I'm even targeting tbh.

Side question - saw a mock that has Josh Jackson falling to the 2nd round now and I've seen him mocked as high as 14 to us. Any reason for this or is this just a particular mock with an "analyst" being different than the rest? I thought Jackson was a consensus top CB?

The Packers have had an absurdly long run of drafting and developing pro bowl level interior lineman in the middle of the draft. I'm just spitballing here (and not looking up draft position) Rivera, Wells (did have to look up if he made the pro bowl), Deidrich-Smith (not a pro bowler but was solid), Sitton, Lang, Linsley, Tretter.

If there is one area to carry forward from the TT era, the mid round OL would be a good one.

Does Dallas regret drafting Zack Martin 16th overall?

What hurts in the draft by far more than anything when picking in this draft range is ending up with a player who is only mediocre or worse.

So while guard would generally be lower on my priority list, if Nelson turned out to be as good as Martin, it would be a great use of the pick. Good lineman help keep Rodgers healthy and make the running game better. Plus, we have an opening at right guard.

You can't just assume either that the team can continue drafting and developing interior lineman with third day picks.

Odds are he won't end up even being around for the Packers to select, but i'd be fine with picking him if he was.

It never hurts to make significant upgrades in the trenches. But those picks aren't exciting and don't show up in the box score so fans undervalue them (myself included). If we drafted a sure fire pro bowler on the OL I know I would be 'meh' but if it helps the team the most possible long term I'm okay with not getting excited over it.

Football players. That's what I want. Metrics are great and can be a great tie breaker all things considered. Metrics can't measure a guys feel for the game or his passion. Enough with the "this guy plays safety in college but we'll draft him as a corner cause were smarter than you all" tactic. I'm not saying grab that D3 mlb that's 5'6" 210, but the Packers brass has too often tried to over think. Upgrade in talent...if that upgrade quotient is equal to a few players and one can fill a more pressing need, by all means, fill the hole. Just get talent that will surpass what you have and swing the matchup balance lever in our favor. Fill gaps and roster spots with FA.

I really want Derwin James if he drops to us. He has all the tools to be a immediate impact player and be a pro bowler sooner rather than later. The injury scares me especially with our luck in that regard but I don't think you can pass on a player of his talent if he drops to us.

Maybe I'm not smart enough but never understood how teams have a semi agreed upon value chart. Each player, position, pick and need is so different that you would think a value chart is irrelevant.

I really like James as well, but my concerns with him is in open space. I'd be fine playing him in the box, but feel we could also do the same with Josh Jones. I definitely want an upgrade at both safety positions, but not sure James will be that ball hawk we need back there. I've heard some people say James could put on weight and become a linebacker. I'd be intrigued with that route.

I use to be like that when i was 15 but as you get older and know more about football you realize just how important those guys are...your telling me you would be "meh" if you knew we got an pro bowler OL?? If Nelson is there when were up we should take him if he's thought of as highly as ppl are saying..ill take a pro bowl guard our o line would be pretty elite with David B, Linsley, Taylor, and Nelson..will see who plays RT next year
