Rank the QBs in the NFL Right Now

Chris Simms has been doing this thing on Dan Le Batard's radio show where he's counting down the 70 best QBs. He started a month ago by saying that #70 is Blake Bortles. He names one every show. The last time I looked, Simms had reached the mid 40s.

Here is Simms getting into it with Tony Boselli over his characterization of Bortles:

Figured we could try a similar exercise here, but with our top 10 QBs. Of course, you've got to factor in age and injury-status. You can choose to factor in playoff performances. Contracts don't matter.

My ranking:

1. Aaron Rodgers
2. Tom Brady
3. Ben Roethlisberger
4. Drew Brees
5. Russell Wilson
6. Matt Ryan
7. Matthew Stafford
8. Philip Rivers
9. Carson Wentz - Easily could shoot up into my top 5 if he's healthy and productive next season.
10. Kirk Cousins

Next up in no specific order: Cam Newton, Derek Carr, Jared Goff, Alex Smith.

Guys on the cusp but still need to prove it to me: Dak Prescott, DeShaun Watson, Jimmy Garoppolo.

Good topic. I'd still rank Rodgers #1. Agree with Brady $2. After that it's a crap shoot. I think I'd go Brees at 3, followed by Wentz, Ryan, Big Ben, Stafford, Rivers, Wilson, Goff. I think Watson cracks the top 10 easily when he's back. Jimmy G sure looked good on a crappy team. If Lynch knows what he's doing they're going to be very good, very soon.

If drafting Brady and trading for Belichick are the two best moves the Patriots have ever made, trading Garoppolo might end up as their worst.

Brees is not a top 3 QB anymore, I would put Wilson at #3 right now. Brees has a bunch of talent on that team and had a down year (for himself mostly, not overall), albeit, he didn't have to throw as much since he finally has a legit (possibly best in the NFL) running game. His completion % was best in the league but he also has 2 perfect check down running backs

If Wilson is your 3rd best QB in the league then it should probably speak more about a dearth of elite guys then it does about how good Wilson is.

Big Ben holds the 3rd spot for me with really just any combination of Wentz, Brees and Ryan following him in any order as really the 2nd tier of QBs but imo those 4 are pretty clearly ahead of Stafford, Wilson, Cam and Watson rounding out the top 10 in the 3rd tier in any order. (Not a believer in Goff yet)

Only truly elite guy's are Brady and Rodgers right now

Wilson had a better year than Brees with no RB and no offensive line. That's my take

Chris Simms said Brett Hundley was the 35th best QB in the NFL. Ahead of Eli Manning. Ahead of Blake Bortles.

I'd put Wentz and Luck ahead of Wilson pretty easily when healthy, problem is Luck hasn't been healthy in years. Wilson has always been one of those guys that I argue is never properly rated. He got way too much credit for the Seahawks success his first 2-3 years when he was just a glorified Chad Pennington riding the coattails of a dominant defense and run game. But his recent years have been his best statistically and I'd firmly put him ahead of guys like Matt Ryan, Kirk Cousins, Alex Smith, etc. It's pretty much Rodgers and Brady in a class of their own, followed by everyone else in that average-to-mid-tier level. Like people have previously said, there's just a lack of truly elite QB's at the moment. Go back to 2009 or so and you had Brady, Manning, Rodgers, Favre, Big Ben, Philip Rivers, and Drew Brees all playing at near peak levels.

Rodgers
Brady

(gap)

Cam Newton
Carson Wentz
Drew Brees
Andrew Luck
Russell Wilson
Big Ben
Matt Stafford?

Then Idk....
