OREN BURKS, Vanderbilt (6-3, 232, 4.62, 4): Started 19 games at free safety in 2014-’15 before shifting to ILB in a 3-4 defense the past two years. “Smart as a whip,” said one scout. “There’s no doubt this guy will play. What a great kid. This is the type of kid you search for.” Finished with 237 tackles (15 1/2 for loss), 4 ½ sacks, five interceptions and 26 passes defensed. Tied for the positional lead in the vertical jump (39 ½) and led the broad jump (10-10). “Good instincts against the run,” a second scout said. “Can roam, match up and blitz on third down. Tough.” Wonderlic of 24. From Fairfax Station, Va.

This guys is a prototype Will in the 3-4. Really love the pick. Played safety, is proven in coverage. Still plays well sideline to sideline and has solid speed.

Don't know but I am excited to have a legit dime linebacker. Would've preferred a Edge guy but just grab Jacobs in the 4th and we good. Lol

Man, Gutey is nailing this draft. Burks is a 4.55-4.58 guy who used to play in the f'ng secondary. He's exactly what we need in the coverage aspect and sideline to sideline coverage that Ryan really lacks. Way way better than Joe Thomas.

"Smart as a whip" is great to hear. Tired of so many mental errors on D especially against the pass. He'll play next to Blake Martinez in base sets, hopefully!
His combine 40 was 4.59 with a 39.5" vertical.

Oren Burks reminds me of the kind of guy that would go much earlier if he had the benefit of playing at a more dominant school. He is in on almost every play for Vandy.

Does kinda seem like that classic Ted reach like picking Thorton in the 3rd. First look your like who and look him up and he is projected late 4th to 5th. I do like the look of this kid seems like a smart dime linebacker who would make a great spy against running qb.
