ATL: Divisional Playoff Week
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

This is gonna be fascinating. Put me on the record saying he and Lafleur were my top choices once Riley was out.

Its not like I'm the first one to put this out there, I just don't get get the weird personal animosity some of you have for McDaniels. Did those guys that quit their jobs become unemployed after McDaniels left? I don't think so. I just don't care and I don't think you back out of a job unless you have a good reason so I don't see how it should have been an issue to us. However, that's a better reason for not hiring him I guess than because he was threatening the power structure by wanting to build his own staff at least. LaFleur seems to be the hire that knows to stay in their own lane, doubt McDaniel's would have been content with his place on the totem pole.

I moved your post here if folks want to continue the McDaniels discussion. We'll keep the other thread to LaFleur moving forward.
But to reply to this specific issue - my argument is less about McDaniels and whether he was a good hire (I've said multiple times that my choices were LaFleur or McDaniels) and is more about the rationale you're providing for defending his decision to break his word to the Colts and to the assistants he hired. The fact that you don't see how ethically dubious that is professionally boggles my mind.
By the way, the only reason those assistant kept those jobs is because Frank Reich was gracious enough to honor their hires after coming on board.

So, if either one of them is the front runner in Cleveland, where does McCarthy land?

Re: ATL: Divisional Playoff Week
Kingsbury getting a HC job is insane, they actually talked about McCarthy being a candidate down here so to go from that to Kingsbury is a shocker. Failing upwards, wtf is going on? I could get OC but HC?!?! The NFL is very cargo cult like with how to they try to emulate other teams success, it's officially thee trend but is it justified? Kingsbury getting a job I guess makes me feel better about LeFleur, at least he's been pro who has worked with the top guys for some years. I guess I'm just the weirdo now the values experience.
Kingsbury was 35-40 at Texas Tech running the air raid offense he inherited and one he played in him, went 5-7 and got fired. Gets picked up as USC's OC, okay about right, few weeks later HC of the Arizona Cardinals!?!?! (omg how could he leave USC hanging like that
) That career trajectory is beyond belief, honestly one of the most shocking hires I can ever remember. Obviously take the money and run Kliff, wow, he could almost still suit up for the Cards at QB.

1/8 Coaching Search Update:
Bengals -
Broncos -
Browns - Freddie Kitches or Kevin Stefanski
Buccaneers - Bruce Arians
Cardinals - Kliff Kingsbury
Dolphins -
Jets -
Packers - Matt LaFleur
Looks like only 4 more options left. Gase, McCarthy, Bieniemy, Fangio and Monken are the top "name" guys left. Also sounds like Munchak has the lead for the Denver job. It'll be interesting to see if McCarthy can land a gig or if he takes a year off. Wouldn't mind seeing Gase come to GB as an OC if he doesn't mind not calling plays.

Re: ATL: Divisional Playoff Week
I think it's a shift in philosophy where teams are far less concerned with a coaches ability to run a whole team and more looking for specialist that are really good at their side of the ball and then they just hire an experienced coordinator to run the other side. Sure Pettine and who ever the Cards hire to run their D report to the head coach but I think they are given more power and autonomy than in the past.

Re: ATL: Divisional Playoff Week
So MM had dinner with several Cleveland guys (including Haslem, Dorsey and Wolf) but no interview? Or was the dinner report incorrect?
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Re: ATL: Divisional Playoff Week
3 of the 4 teams that lost had the higher ranked d in DVOA with only Dallas getting the win. And all of the top 7 teams in defensive DVOA are out now.Mags FTW wrote:MickeyDavis wrote:Don't get the Kingsbury love.

All of the top 5 teams in offensive DVOA are still alive. And the only teams outside the top 10 who are still playing are Dallas (24) and phily (16).
My take is offense is more important and you really just need your d to not suck.

Sounds like Mac wants the Jets to know that he REALLY wants to be there.
The only other job he was linked to was Cleveland, and it sounds like Dorsey is going in a different direction.
