If all those guys have improved so much then why does the defense suck so bad right now?

I still believe that talent wise, this is the most talent our defense has had in a long time. I think the scheme is the biggest thing hampering the defense right now. Only rushing four and sitting in zone has reminded me of the latter Capers days. Either play more man with your physical CB's, or blitz more, or both.

It seems to me that we consistently get beat in the middle of the field, whether it's through the running game or through drag routes across the middle. I feel like that's a reflection of our terrible ILB play. It would be nice to see a chart to determine where we're giving up the most yardage.

I feel like we've been saying this for a decade or more.

Notice how none of them are in the secondary...

Oren Burkes providing basically nothing so far is really a killer. He was supposed to be the coverage LB that would allow them to play more actual 4 LB sets and I imagine they would have loved for him to take Martinez spot in the nickel and dime.

Martinez was his normal fine but not great self early in the year but has really struggled lately. His play against the run has been unacceptable. Against the pass I kind of put that on the coaching staff, it's like when they would put Hyde at CB and ask him to play man. In both cases I think theres enough evidence the player can't do what you're asking so it's probably time to not do that anymore.

The safeties also deserve some blame and Savage hasn't looked good since coming back from his injury.

We've been missing a "Secondary QB" guy since Collins went down. You can have a bunch of speed back there, but I think solid secondaries have an Ed Reed-type that is the brains of the operation. Was hoping Amos would be that guy.

IF cLAY Matthews was honest when he said - he wanted to return to Pack and would have listened to any offer - it would have been a plus to have him at ILB with a positive attitude.

Wouldn't it be week 17 against the Lions in 2016? For the division

Yes sir. We haven't had a dynamic full-time ILB since Desmond Bishop.

Bishop was a good run thumper but hed be less effective in today's pass happy NFL. Nick Barnett was probably the last real cover and run stopping ILB. He's a guy who would be better in today's NFL vs when he played.
