Hate to say it but to me it all hinges on Love. If he's a ten year starter then we forget about the rest of the class, which to me looks like sh*t.

In order for this to be considered a success love needs to be a pro bowler down the line, dillon has to be Derrick Henry and not closer to Ron Dayne. The te hback has to be a solid contributor. The first three picks are crucial. They may have reached for each of those and have to hit on them,

The back of the draft was solid. We're able to add depth.

Hard to grade a draft when you don't really understand what the Packer organization is doing.

If the organization is basically rebuilding/re-tooling to accommodate LaFleur's run-first passing offense, then I guess drafting a RB in round 2, an H-Back in round 3, 3 interior offensive line projects in later rounds, and passing on WRs in a historically deep WR draft makes sense.

It also explains the decision to use your 1st and 4th round picks on a raw QB who will have to sit behind one of the highest-paid QBs in the NFL for at least 2 if not 4 seasons.

However, if the team, which was in the NFC Championship Game last season, was serious about improving sufficiently to return to the Super Bowl in 2020, drafting maybe (maybe) 1 new starter with their 9 selections and ignoring obvious roster holes at WR and DLine (and adding a plodding mediocre player at ILB) makes no sense.

My take is that the Packers do not believe they are close to getting to the Super Bowl and a rebuilding/re-tooling process has begun, but without knowing that is the case I can't really properly understand what this draft was really about.

Let's say that is the case. Then trade Rodgers to Miami for those three firsts and go crazy.

Also, base your grade off of that being the case. They still (more than likely) overdrafted players. The trade up for Love made sense to me....it seems like after that they just picked a player that fit their "rebuild" and drafted him a round, or two, or three rounds before anyone else would.

Of course we will never know.....but it seems weird.

It's been a while since I've watched a Packer team burn to the ground. It will be refreshing change

Not a fan of this years Packer draft in general. They spent a big chunk of cap last year to improve the roster, but fell short. Rather than try to get over the hump, they already seem to have cut bait and we're in a rebuild on the fly. Even if I were to accept the premise that last year was the end of this line, I'm not sold they picked the right pieces in the right slots, even for a year or two out. Dillon and Deguarra are the only two who probably see some game time this year and even that may be iffy. All of the other players picked are flawed, either by being very raw, or marginal talent.

The strength of this draft was Wide Receivers and Offensive Line (especially Tackles). No Wide Receivers were picked, and Deguarra is a bit of a hybrid HB/TE. I still think both of those guys could have been picked later. I'm not sure if the failure to pick a top grade Wide Receiver was by design, or bad placement in pick sequence. But then Gute used up most of his wiggle room by trading up for Love. They did pick some OLine guys, but late, missing out on the best talent. I have my doubts that Hansen and Stepaniak see much playing time ever, even if they make the final cut. Runyon should be a keeper, but he needs refinement too.

Love may prove to be the next great Packer QB, but we aren't likely to see any results for 2 to 3 years., so that #30 pick is a very deferred investment. The only way he sees time in the near future, is if Rogers goes down; then the Packers are probably kaput for the remainder of that season.

I guess I'm seeing some truly bad asset management here.

Had a near perfect offseason and turned a mediocre team into a 13-3 NFC title berth last year, so Gute/MLF have bought themselves some credibility. That said, we passed on IMO, a blue-chip tackle (Jones) that fell to the 2nd, and didn't move up and grab a wideout. Arguably reached on the only two skill position players we drafted. I guess they must have confidence that one of MVS/EQ/Sternberger/Lazard are gonna develop into a legit play-maker. Hard to grade this without knowing for likely the next 2-3 years whether Love is a home-run or not.

Like I said in the draft thread, there isn't room in the league for all the WRs drafted. Vets will be cut to make room and save money, and that's when we need to swoop in.

We didn't draft one guy who's going to play significantly in 2020. This is an F, and I hope to christ the media holds Gute and Lafleur accountable for this.

When we look back on this 3 years from now, this draft will be the reason we continue to get just hammered by good teams in the playoffs. That is assuming we even make the playoffs.

The 49ers got better this off-season, we did not, and it's depressing.

2020 will be the first year ever I will not put money on GB to win the super bowl.

Most of these guys won't play their contracts out.

On specific players:

Love is Josh Freeman

Dillon and Deguara are dudes who worked in offenses 20 years ago and won't make an impact and are literally the opposite of what we need. They will force these guys on the field and the offense will be worse because of it.

Kamal Martin is not on the team in year 3

One of the offensive linemen will be our starting center for 2021, one will be a backup, one is Jason Spriggs.

The last two guys - one won't make the 53 this year, the other won't make it next year.

Total fail.

A better draft which was on the table would have been:

2-Jalen Hurts (trade up give up the 4th)
3-Adam Trautman
4-F*ck you Gute I'm not doing your job for you anymore

Could be an eventual A, could be an eventual F so I felt a C was fitting for that.

Won’t talk much about the individual players. Head scratchers were definitely Love and Deguara. Really liked the Dillon pick and loading up on OL. Don’t know much about the defensive guys. This class will technically be incomplete until Love takes over or he’s used as a trade chip.

Looks like a total trainwreck but I'll hope for the best. MLF very clearly wants to replicate the power running offense he had in Tennessee (and the one he got steamrolled by in the playoffs).
