Interesting. I had read that they were going to do the first four weeks of NFC vs. AFC games so if they had to shorten the season those would be the first to go. Apparently not if Lions/Bears is week 1.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

It would make sense to put the first four games as NFC/AFC. I wonder why they scrapped it. Plenty of interesting games and good TV matchups.

I'm definitely with you. It made a lot of sense this season

I personally have never understood why they don't just do all divisional games the first 3 games of the season and the last 3. I know they do it sometimes, but it should be like that for every division every year.

Chi@GB (should always be week 1)
GB@Minn week 2
GB@Det week 3

then inverse it the final 3 weeks

Det@GB
Minn@GB
GB@Chi (should always be the final game of the season)

This would make people planning on traveling so much easier. All divisional teams get each other early in the year and again late to see the difference in the progression of the teams throughout the year. Makes the final games more meaningful. Schedulers really only have to worry about the rest of the season to plan for.

Here's an early take on Strength-of-Schedule:

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/strength-of-schedule-rankings-colts-have-the-easiest-ride-while-both-giants-and-jets-face-tough-tests/

Strength of schedule rankings: Colts have the easiest ride, while both Giants and Jets face tough tests
Philip Rivers couldn't be entering a better situation in Year 1 with the Colts

by Jared Dubin
/quote]

In order to figure out exactly how tough that schedule is, we turned to our friends at William Hill, who have set each team's win total over-under for the 2020 season. Using those over-unders gives us a better idea of how those teams are expected to do in 2020 than does using their records from 2019. The Patriots don't have Tom Brady anymore, so why should we count them as a 12-win team when Vegas expects they'll come in somewhere around 9.5, right?

(In the chart below O/U is that team's win total over-under for the 2020 season and SOS is their strength of schedule based on opponent over-unders. For reference, the Colts have the easiest schedule and the Falcons have the most difficult schedule.)

    Rank.Team...O/U...SOS
    1.....IND.....8.5...0.48
    2.....TEN...8.5...0.488
    T-3...BAL..11.5...0.494
    T-3...CHI...8.5...0.494
    T-3...CLE...8.5...0.494
    T-3...LAC...7.5...0.494
    7.....DET...6.5...0.498
    T-8...KC..11.5...0.5
    T-8...PIT...9....0.5
    10....DAL...9.5...0.502
    T-11..MIA...6....0.504
    T-11..SEA...9.5...0.504
    T-11..TB...9.5...0.504
    14....MIN...9....0.506
    15....SF..10.5...0.508
    T-16..ARI...6.5...0.51
    T-16..GB...9....0.51
    T-16..HOU...8....0.51
    T-16..JAX...4.5...0.51
    T-20..NE...9....0.514
    T-20..PHI...9.5...0.514
    T-22..BUF...9....0.516
    T-22..CIN...5....0.516
    T-22..NO..10.5...0.516
    T-22..WAS...5.5...0.516
    26....LAR...8.5...0.518
    27....LV....7.5...0.521
    T-28..CAR...5.5...0.523
    T-28..DEN...7.5...0.523
    30....NYJ...6.5...0.527
    31....NYG...6.5...0.531
    32....ATL...7.5...0.535

Indy has the easiest by this metric and Atlanta the toughest.

So they have a 3 hour "reveal" show and they are allowing teams to release their schedule a half hour before (6:30 CDT). Cool.

They've been doing mostly (but not all) division games the final 3 weeks of the season for awhile. Good idea. And I like doing the first 3 weeks as well. Teams are healthy (usually). No bye week quirks or one team coming off a short week, etc.

Front and backloading division games is one of the only things the NFL has done right over the last several years. Now, if they can just get rid of those god awful Thursday night games (I know they never will), the league would be so much better off.

Don't get rid of them, but extend two byes to each team and give them a bye week leading up to their Thursday night games. Good for teams to get that extra week of rest (one bye in weeks 3-8, one bye in weeks 13-18 or something like that).

Murphy said he put Lambeau as Unavailable for the 10/3 weekend because of the Wisconsin Notre Dame game. The NFL must not consider Monday night to be that weekend

I'm surprised they would want 2 games in 3 days at Lambeau. I know it's not an all grass turf but the Pack can't be happy if that's the case. Unless they are sure college FB is getting pushed back to early 2021. CFB will unlikely play with no fans, they'll wait.

And if that's the right schedule they are giving the green package a Monday night and Sunday night game. Interesting.

That Thursday game in San Fran is going to be brutal

Also Minnesota, Chicago, Indy all have extra rest before playing us & our bye week advantage against Tampa is kind of canceled out since they will be coming off a Thursday matchup
