The new season starts with training camp. Veterans are scheduled to report on Tuesday, 7/28, and practices will begin in a week or so.

I like it. It'd be like adding Peppers in 2014, but wouldn't he be more of an OLB for us? I don't see a need unless he plays 3-4 DE

The way the pack play their sub packages it's really not a 3/4 4/3 type deal. I imagine they'd line him up all over the place as a pass rusher.

What would Griffen demand? 2 year 10-12 mil deal? He's 32 and can still play. would be awesome with him, smith bro's rushing the passer.

If they’re not trying to roll cap over (which I think is a huge mistake not to), id rather they spend the money they have left on multiple guys to fill defined roles rather than sign a top notch guy at perhaps our biggest position of depth.

One of the biggest areas that Ted failed IMO was not necessarily going after the big free agents, but ignoring the second and third tier vet free agents. Too often we relied on developmental late round or UDFAs for depth. If you stay healthy that’s fine and dandy but when those guys get pressed into service you get burned. Give me someone whose been in that situation.

At the risk of sounding homerish, I’d say bring in multiple guys from the pool of Tramon, Clay, Harrison, Warford, etc.

Im all for harrison(who i think would be a even bigger addition than everson and im all into bringing warford in as well.Hes a terrific guard much better than whoever lines up on tbe right side.
Perfect world i would say gabriel harrison and warford though i really like griffith

I agree in hindsight they could have used some vet depth. But some of that is an intentional aspect of a draft and develop approach, you fill the back end with UDFAs and late round picks with hopes some develop and breakout. If you have too much vet depth you can't find the diamonds in the rough. It's basically a numbers game where you hope a small percentage works.

What killed them was TT simply didn't find enough of those diamonds late in his tenure and the pack also seemed to have long run of horrible injury luck.

Viking's DT Pierce is opting out because of asthma. They may use that money to bring back Griffen.

Not an ideal replacement for Funchess size-wise, but Taylor Gabriel has been serviceable with Trubisky throwing him the ball.

So how does the cap work? His number gets removed this year and added to next?

Pretty sure, yes. His contract tolls, can’t see why he would count against the cap.
No loss in my book. We’ve got plenty of big slow receivers that drop the ball in tough situations

I saw yesterday that his signing bonus (around $1m) counts on this year's cap then his base salary is rolled to next season. Kind of an odd set up.

So he gets 2 workout bonus? That doesn't seem right to me.

Crosby & Sternberger tested positive for Covid. I thought Crosby was going to opt out, misunderstood though.
