A rare Saturday regular season game for the Pack. Need to keep winning to hold into HFA.

Need Rodgers to keep throwing 3 TDs/game (and win) to wrap up that MVP.

Can't afford a mental letdown for this potential trap game. They need to continue to take care of business.

BTW, replace Menninga already. Let one of his assistants take over for the duration.

I get that the Jets were 0-12, but the Raiders are 7-6 and in the thick of the AFC playoff race, and they just fired their D-Coordinator as well. Probably too late in the season at this point for it to be a discussion, but these kinds of moves aren't that uncommon and can sometimes provide a shot-in-the-arm to a struggling unit. Have to imagine that anything other than a SB, and Pettine is gone as soon as the offseason starts.

LaFleur almost lost his **** on Pettine after that 12 men on the field penalty yesterday. There have been several moments like that this season. Then you have the countless penalties, people not lined up in the correct gaps, poor tackling, etc. It's been a **** show on defense. And to me, they have enough talent there to be good. Some holes, yes, but the pass rush and secondary should be elite level and they have one of the best DL in the game too.

Last year worst 13-3 team ever. This yr worst team to go 10-3 and be favored to nab the 1 seed.

Want to be worst Super Bowl winner ever. It'll be more satisfying, like when opposing team drops a ball in the end zone. Also would make up for the NFC Championship debacle in Seattle when they fell as the best team.

I hope that this is satire because these types of things are really starting to get annoying to continually see.

Then again its better then "Well they overachieved last year and they're overachieving this year" because two full seasons isn't a big enough sample size to call them a really good team

Yeah, I don't know who bore more responsibility for bad D back in the Capers-Thompson years, but right now it's on Pettine, not the GM.

Sure, the D might look better if we had drafted and hit with a top pick on a DL or ILB, but the GM did a ton to get him more talent last year, and this year they should be better playing together in the system for another year. Isn't that what people attribute Ravens-Bears-Vikes solid defenses to, guys being in the same system for a long time? Anyway, we have pass rushing talent (Gary, Z, Preston, Clark, Keke) and secondary talent (big FA Amos plus 1st rounder Savage, 1st rounder Jaire, high 2nd King). Watching the D doesn't make me think, If only they had Patrick Queen, it'd be shutting teams down.

Just so sloppy this year. That 12 men on the field, the 5? penalties on that drive, the horrific screen defense on another drive. And still bothered by the NFCC last year, so embarrassing to make the Niners have to attempt only 8 passes.

To be positive, the run D was pretty good yesterday, which is encouraging. Savage has been playing well. Gary's stepping up. Hopefully the D keeps playing better and better the rest of the year into the SB.

I agree with pretty much all of that. To me, our long-term defensive core right now is Clark/Gary/Jaire/Savage/Martin, with Z and Amos good veterans to have for the next few years (both 28 and under). King is good at times, but way too inconsistent and injured and we have other cap decisions to make. Preston should be cut. Look to upgrade Lowry/Lancaster/Kirksey. CB/DL/ILB in this draft.

Agree. This isn't a bears team where they go 13-3 one year due to ridiculous amount of defensive and St touchdowns only to come down to earth the next season at finish around .500. I was hesitant going into this year because of Rodgers and the offense but they're elite this year. My concern solely lies on defense and ST.

We see what happens when the offense stalls. The defense will need more than one or two stops a game come playoff time. Special teams cannot give up big plays either.

I'll always have questions surrounding the coaching staff as long as Murphy insists on being involved in all aspects of the team. Did LaFleur have the sole power to hire/fire Pettine and Mennenga?

I really can't imagine Murphy would get in the way of LaFleur if he wanted to make a move on his staff.

The thing is, this team can still go far, even with the question marks on defense and ST. Literally every team in the NFC has some sort of major weakness -- maybe the Saints are the team that doesn't when Brees is healthy, but even if he comes back, he's probably going to be far from 100%. And as long as the Packers take care of business down the stretch, they'd have to win two games before they have to play at Lambeau.

I just wish MLF made the move of getting rid of Pettine immediately after the Niners game last year. With a halfway competent DC, I think this defense would be average to maybe even solid overall. Pettine's refusal to blitz and sticking with his dime personnel on obvious running downs (see the Colts game) is beyond annoying and bad. Just have to hope MLF and the defensive players continue to convince him to play to their strengths.

If you are a fan that can live in the moment and put each season in a box of its own, all the more power to ya.
I'm a "the defense is gonna give up 50 and season over" guy until they prove otherwise. So far this season, I'm not seeing any reason to think otherwise.

They never highlight he also has a couple running TDs even in previous yrs when I see media discussing they neglect his first downs and tds with his legs.

Read on Twitter

Cool angle of Gary's sack. Big man can run.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Preston has 656 snaps to Gary's 361. If Gary kept up the same sack pace, he would have 9 sacks in Preston's snaps, with three games to go.

I think he ends up a 12+ sack guy who can also hold the edge against the run.

You just hope that Preston can give you 6-7 more good games and help us win a championship, because he's as good as gone in the offseason. At this point, Gary should be firmly entrenched as the starter opposite Z.

Preston does better when he's not back covering backs or TE's. He's just not good at that. Still, this has not been a good year for him in any case.
