6th this year, and a 2&4 next year for Darnold. Certainly more than I would’ve given up.

Would you trade a 1st for a 2nd+6th? Because that's what we paid for Love.

I’m not sure what you’re getting at here but I’ll take a stab at it and just declare Love as the better prospect with a higher upside.

It's also not an apples to apples comp because with Darnold you had to pick up his $20m 5th year option. That absolutely factored into his trade value.jakecronus8 wrote:MoMM wrote:jakecronus8 wrote:6th this year, and a 2&4 next year for Darnold. Certainly more than I would’ve given up.

We traded a 1st+4th for Love, they traded 2nd+4th+6th for Darnold, you remove the 4th from the equation and that's 1st for 2nd+6th.
Yes, paying 20M for the 5th year is huge, I didn't had thought about it.

Though, if Darnold works out well in Carolina, they'll be OK with the price tag. If not, well....

For sure. If he's even Kirk Cousins level good this season I'm sure they will give him a $100m extension.Treebeard wrote:MoMM wrote:jakecronus8 wrote:

This is one of those trades that's fine and reasonable for both sides.

I think it's a bit misleading to say that we traded a 1st and 4th for Love. We traded a 4th to move up and draft Love. If we stood pat and were able to draft him where we were, would that have been described as trading a first for him?

Sorry, I wrote it wrong, but the idea is valid, we spent a 1st+4th for Love, they spent 2nd+4th+6th for Darnold, so the real question is, would you rather spend a 1st on Love or a 2nd+6th on Darnold?

Well, 1st for Love for a couple of reasons;
1. Darnold has been worse than I thought, though he had a lot working against him - this does not imply Love would have been better or is better, just the Darnold stock is low
2. Love has four more years of team control at a much lower cost than Darnold. Let's say we gave up the 2nd and 6th for him instead of drafting Love, great now instead of Loves 2.2M cap hit, we have Darnold and Rodgers for like 40M of our cap, that's highly restrictive.
3. Love was drafted where he was because he has a lot of arm talent and is really toolsy, I think he has higher upside with same downside (maybe out of NFL after first contract) as Darnold
I do want to be fair to Darnold, that team stinks and by far the best thing that could happen is a fresh start for him.

I have absolutely no idea what Watson's lawyer is doing with his defense:
His defense is Watson wanted sex under the guise of massage therapy, and some of them went for it? How does that work? Watson sexually harasses or assaults women, and some of them didn't go for it?
Rusty Hardin: Deshaun Watson never engaged in acts with plaintiffs that weren't 'mutually desired'

That seems like a pretty desperate defense from Hardin.

Jets turned down #12 pick for Darnold?
That organization has so many issues

Was it confirmed it was this years pick? Because given what they got for him, there has to be way more to it, like they wanted the Jets second rounder back or something.
