Like the position, but would have preferred a different player. He'll probably be a day one starter and be good.

Can't argue against the value.

Our last center from Ohio state was pretty good too.

Would have preferred OT before C, but it makes sense.

For some reason I thought he was a guard. Yeah we needed a center.

PFF's 142nd ranker player. Yikes.

#3 ranked center in the Athletic.

BACKGROUND: Josh Myers, who is the youngest of three boys, grew up in Miamisburg and started playing football in the third grade on the offensive line. He saw immediate varsity reps as a freshman at Miamisburg High School and was a four-year starting guard in the offense’s heavy-run oriented wing-T offense. Myers was part of four straight playoff appearances at Miamisburg and earned First Team All-Conference honors four times. He received Division II All-State honors as a junior and senior and was named a 2016 U.S. Army All-American. Myers also lettered in basketball.

A four-star offensive guard recruit out of high school, Myers was the No. 2-ranked offensive guard in the 2017 class (behind Ohio State teammate Wyatt Davis) and the No. 1 recruit in the state of Ohio. He started receiving scholarship offers as a freshman in high school and finished with offers from Alabama, Florida, Notre Dame and many others. However, Myers made up his mind as a sophomore that he was headed for Ohio State, publicly committing during a Buckeyes’ home basketball game. His father (Brad) played center and guard at Kentucky (1984-87). His mother (Julie) played basketball at Dayton and is a member of the school’s athletics hall of fame. His older brother (Zach) played on the offensive line at Kentucky (2012-16). Myers graduated with his degree in social work (December 2020). He skipped his senior season and entered the 2021 NFL Draft. Myers accepted his invitation to the 2021 Senior Bowl, but pulled out due to injury.

STRENGTHS: Passes the eye test with his framework and build…boasts a strong upper body with rude, forceful hands…able to match power for power with his opponent…has the body control to gain positioning, anchor and strike from his hips…moves bodies on down blocks, generating force from his core…efficiently climbs to the second level and transitions well on combos…highly physical run blocker and plays with the demeanor required for NFL trench play…mean, consistent block finisher…his coaches say his intelligence is among the best they’ve seen in Columbus…football lifer and team captain at Ohio State — he was the voice in the middle of the offensive huddle getting guys going…offers roster flexibility at either center or guard.

WEAKNESSES: Tends to play top heavy, leading to him leaning and falling off blocks…can be surprised by quickness and needs to replace/reset his hands more efficiently in pass pro…his lateral agility is only average…makes too much contact with his own blockers when working down the line of scrimmage…his angles on second-level blocks or screen plays have room for improvement…needs to drop his pads more consistently to drive and create displacement…didn’t log any college starts at guard…missed the Senior Bowl due to a turf toe injury (January 2021), requiring surgery.

SUMMARY: A two-year starter at Ohio State, Myers was the center in head coach Ryan Day’s offense. He served as a backup guard and center in 2018 before earning the starting center job in 2019, starting 21 games there the last two seasons. Myers is a square, instinctive blocker with the core strength and competitive juices that allow him to consistently finish blocks. A guard in a run-only offense in high school, he is still developing his pass protection skills and will struggle at times vs. quickhanded rushers. Overall, Myers isn’t an elite athlete for the position and needs to cut back on the aggressive leaning, but he brings the desired levels of toughness, smarts and execution. He projects as a starter in the NFL at a guard or center

Great pick. He'll be compared to the OU center who went next.

I've defended this team's draft strategy in the past, but I swear they just love being contrarians and trolling the naysayers. Not a fan of spending a 2nd round pick on a Center. I don't see the value and if anything, this was the year to trade up for either a Tackle or WR, with so many quality ones available.

Instead we just sat on our hands (when we don't have enough cap room for 10 drafted players anyways), and drafted a non-premium position player where in teh past we've had success finding guys in the 5th round and beyond. The casual fan outrage might actually be warranted this time.

McGinn has him #4 center

Played mostly guard in high school (in Miamisburg, Ohio) and in his first two seasons for the Buckeyes before starting all 21 games at center in 2019 and ’20.

“He will be a starter,” one scout said. “The center position is smart, tough, reliable, and he’s all of those things. He’s a solid player across the board. No flash to him, but he’ll be a reliable player.”

Underwent turf toe surgery in January.

“He gets knocked back every once in a while, but all in all, he’s a good prospect,” said another scout. “Loves the game of football. Good with his snaps. He’s got size. He’s a technician. He knows how to turn guys.”

Has short arms (32 inches).

“Very limited,” a third scout said. “Slow. Not flexible at all. Top heavy. Limited-type backup.”

Big guy for a center. Can play all 3 interior spots. Like.
Elgton can always move outside.

Really glad I didn't invest as much time in this draft process as I usually do. It is pretty pointless with Gutey calling the shots, you will almost always be disappointed.

Filled two needs. Neat-O.
