Browns Lead Up - MVS on COVID List

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Tue Dec 21, 2021 12:28 am

Both teams on short weeks. Assuming Baker is back. Garrett hurt in the second half of Raiders game so we'll see if it's seriously or not.

Maybe this is the week Bahk and Jaire see some reps? They need some actual game action if they're going to contribute meaningful reps in the playoffs.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Instead of adding a 17th game, the NFL should have added an extra bye week. I've said give everyone their bye week throughout the season like they do now. Then in mid or late December (like right now) the entire league should take a week off so everyone can get healthy and get some rest before the final 2 or 3 games of the season and into playoffs. Quality over quantity. Obviously the league cares way too much about their players to do that. Would have been perfect timing right now had they done something like that.

I feel pretty confident the second bye week is for the 18 game schedule after the NFL says ‘gee whiz I guess having an off schedule is a problem, shucks. Anyway we could fix it somehow ?’

Exactly, they are saving it so they can propose the extra game together. See we care about safety!!

Looks like a lot of sportsbook places have Rodgers as the MVP favorite.

There was a year or two when they had 2 bye weeks in the 16 game schedule. Networks were happy they got an extra week of games. Players were happy with the extra week off. Then they ditched it and added Thursday night games.

We all know they'll add an 18th game. If they also add a second bye week it pushes the SB to the end of Feb.

I'm not up on the inner-workings of the labor agreements, but how is the union okay with any of this, even the 17 game schedule? Players under an assumed per-year contract aren't even getting paid more, are they?

Indirectly they are paid more in the next contract, because if it has more games, TV will pay more for the rights, then the salary cap increases and then the teams can pay more. See for example MLE/LLE exceptions in NBA contracts, which are a % of the salary cap.

The 17 game schedule was part of the last CBA that the players voted for. It was a close vote but it passed.

As much as it is on the owners, there is definitely some fault for the players. Players always bitch about stuff but in the end it comes down to money for them as well. They didn't want the bubble, but they wanted to still get paid. They didn't want a condensed season last year but went along. Same with the shortened summer this year.

This was the first year of his deal so he better be healthy next season. Can't cut him yet. $39 million cap hit if cut vs $22.7 million if kept. But it flips after next season, $17 million if cut, $26 million if kept. Aaron jones is structured the same way. After next season it's a big difference, much cheaper to get rid of him.
