We were borderline top 10 defense last season, added a dynamic DT (Wyatt), a good DE (reed), a nickle linebacker (Quay) and 'added' Jaire Alexander as well.

I'd like to see us get a safety yet, but my goodness this defense is going to be off the charts.

I think it depends on if those savings could be used to get Landry or to trade for a vet WR and sign him to an extension.

Gute mentioned he was looking forward to have a deep rotation to keep guys fresh. I hope he sticks around

Lowry, Slaton, Clark, Reed, Wyatt, Heflin (and maybe Lancaster?)...That's the best DL we have had in a long, long, long time.

Not only this, but it's the 2nd season of our new D Coordinator, so things might improve in terms of ideas, playbook, etc.

Our defense still has holes to fill. We now have great depth on the Dline and ILB, but right now our 3rd Edge rusher is Garvin, our 4th CB is Shemar Jean-Charles, our 3rd safety is Vernon Scott. All 3 of those positions will see pretty significant snaps this year and that doesn't even account for any possible injuries
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

They'll almost certainly use Quay as a rush linebacker a good amount.

PFF

Position rank 1, big board 17, shades of Larry
Ogunjobi

It was a long road for Wyatt to get to
where he is, but he finally put together his
prodigious physical tools as a redshirt senior.
He's been a healthy part of Georgia's
interior rotation ever since his redshirt
freshman year in 2018 but never really put it
together until last fall. Like others on the
Georgia line, Wyatt is likely to shine even
more when given a role with more freedom,
as he had at the Senior Bowl.

PROS
First step is as good as it gets in the draft class.
Explosive dude.
Ø Cornering ability for a defensive tackle you
don't often see. Can bend back to QBs.
Ø So many schemed rushes to free up blitzing LBs
that hurt his pass-rushing efficiency.

CONS
v Doesn't yet have enough ways to win as a
pass-rusher. All finesse at the moment.
v Average length. First-contact battle isn't where
he wins.
v Listed at 315 pounds but doesn't play up to
that weight

Wyatt wins with elite quickness. He not only possesses linear explosion, but he also has enough
agility to make guards whiff. He does it all well over 300 pounds, which is rare to see.
GET OFF

Wyatt's a versatile defensive tackle capable of lining up anywhere between the tackles. He's at
his best when he can put that first step to good use, but his game can still fit into any scheme.
VERSATILE DT

Wyatt needs to add a physical element to his pass-rushing arsenal. He's an elite athlete for the
position, but he relies on that too much. He could be a bull-rush threat if he wanted to be.

The bottom line
Wyatt has the most all-around skill set in the defensive tackle class and
can make an impact from Day 1.

Pretty dangerous front 7 we are building here. Took Wyatt at 22 in my only mock simulation. Man he moves well. Looking forward to seeing him and Kenny go to work.

I would actually have been happy with Wyatt at 22

Wow, a lot of optimism in this thread. What happened to him? 10 snaps a game for a 24 year old rookie 1st round pick is terrible. The fact that we've been complete garbage on D and he can't even beat out Lowry or Reed for snaps is even worse.

Let's hope our next DC can make him work somehow.

There is no reason he shouldn't be getting snaps over Lowry. He has flashed when out there. I absolutely hated this pick but there is no reason to be giving Lowry or even Reed snaps over him

Hot take, I'm not writing him off after he's played 9 games. A lot of people wrote off Gary early too.

I wouldn't write him off either, but Gary was also 3-4 years younger in his rookie season. Everyone develops at their own rate, but it's a little worrisome if a guy going on the back half of his 20s still isn't seeing the field. By the time he's ready for a rookie extension, he'll be edging 30. Icky.
