A couple of subjective observations from Mike Spofford - Packers.com

Mark from Big Bear City, CA

Good morning II, just wondering how Tariq Carpenter is looking after the offseason? Does it look like he's been busy in the weight room? Would be nice to see him take that second-year leap.

He didn't look much different to me, but he was pretty impressive physically as a rookie already. He was playing inside linebacker rather than safety in Tuesday's workout.

Rod from Chugiak, AK

Zach Tom created quite an appreciative following for his Elgton Jenkins-like ability to be plugged in anywhere along the OL on a moment's notice and perform at a high level. Almost as noteworthy as his versatility is that he did so well, though undersized and before NFL quality strength and conditioning. And so we wait expectantly, not only to see where he'll be positioned, but whether a body change has been wrought by an offseason in the weight room. Anything apparent to the eye?

At first glance yesterday, Tom looked a bit thicker. He appears more stout than last year, but I'm admittedly basing that strictly on my eyes and memory. At some point when we hear from him, I'll be curious what he shares about his offseason.

It'd be a pretty big boon for the defense if they could have Carpenter move Walker to the outside regularly.

Are you saying play him at OLB? I do like Walker's ability to cover, but his two weaknesses last year were run defense and quickness to diagnose plays. I think he has the speed and size to play anywhere, really, if he gets the mental aspect down.

Yup, make him a pass rusher.

Not a bad idea. I do think, assuming Gary is 100% by October/November, they are going to be really good there with Gary/LVN/Preston/Enagbare. I think Walker would be EXTREMELY valuable as an ILB if he can become a Devin White type. But obviously versatility doesn't hurt.

PFF released their RB rankings. Jones was 8th, which seems right. But they had Dillon 29th, which surprised me.

Dillon has been a highly graded back over the past two seasons. He earned a 90.1 rushing grade in 2021 and an 88.4 rushing grade in 2022. He’s more of a situational back to complement Aaron Jones, but it’s still worth noting Dillon consistently does his job. His stuff rate (rushes for no gain or a loss of yards) is the lowest in the league, at just 11.6%.

Dillon the last few years has been near the top of the league for their rushing scores. I'm assuming he gets downgraded on the other stuff but his pure running ability has always ranked him pretty high

I think he'd be great on the outside. Quay is a monster when moving forward. He's got speed, toughness and athleticism. What he doesn't have or hasn't shown is the ability to react quickly. He's an absolute snail diagnosing plays. Now he should get better at it with time, but why wait? Put people where they excel.

The offensive weaponry is really green but I'm pretty excited about the big play potential the group has. Lots of speed, lots of YAC ability, and hopefully Reed gives us a legit slot option we have missed. If Toure turns into something they have a nice core 4 to work with at WR.

Keep in mind that between the TEs, Reed and the move to Love, we should see the middle of the field used frequently for the first time in more than a decade.

We added a lot of between the hashes guys in this draft.

Yep, lots of potential in all three phases. I'm excited for a new chapter. Expectations are low, just want to see flashes and some growth this season.
