2023 Packers and NFL prediction thread - Locks on Thursday

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Tue Aug 22, 2023 4:16 pm

We'll post our usual predictions on the team and the league. I'll open this up Sunday when the preseason is over just in case there are any injuries that could affect predictions. Which is doubtful, I don't think starters are playing much at all in any game.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

OK time for some predictions. Packers, the whole league, players, whatever you want.

I'm all over the place on the Pack. Parroting Rodgers first starting year (he looked good, team went 6-10) wouldn't surprise me but I think this team has more talent than the 2008 team. So a winning record and winning the division wouldn't surprise me either. In a way it's kind of fun to have low expectations for the first time in many years. I'm legit excited about the season. the O/U for wins is 7.5, I'll take the over.

I think the Lions are overrated somewhat. They are a sexy pick to make noise in the playoffs, I don't see it. They could win the division (as could any of the 4).

This could be the year the Bills break through and win the AFC. Chiefs will be right there of course. Bengals. Hopefully not the Jets.

Giants will be worse, will not make the playoffs.

As for Packers players, Love is the favorite to throw the most interceptions. I disagree. HIs yards and TD's are 3400.5 and 21.5. I'm laying off those.

Aaron Jones rushing yards is 850.5. I'm taking the over, I think we run A LOT. And he's had 1,000+ 3 of the last 4 years. Receiving is 325.5, he's been over that each of the last 4 years.

Watson reception and yards are 62.5 and 800.5 (last year 41, 611). I'm not touching this one. I think Doubs will have better numbers and I think Musgrave will have a big year. Doubs yards are 550.5, I like that one. I don't see a TD total for him posted at Poto. Musgrave has no numbers posted.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

10-7, Playoffs

I know it's popular to bring up the 2008 Packers as a means to temper expectations "even if Love looks really good", but that team only went 6-10 because of an absolutely brutal defense especially down the stretch (gave up 31-points per game over the last 6 games). They had the nominal point differential of a 9-10 win team. If Love looks as good as what he's shown when the games matter and the defense isn't a trainwreck, I'm expecting them to be right there in contention for the division.

11-6. If the defense can finally pulls its own weight

Love will be top 5 in TD passes.

9-8, but hoping for more wins. I figure there will be some clinkers and head-scratching plays and play calling early on. Later on, they get their **** together as the season progresses (baring key injuries).

(I'm figuring the opposite for the Jets BTW, with a hot start and fading in the stretch, but no real idea on their record)

10-7, playoffs. Top 5 OL, top 5 RB duo, far more depth in front 7, and far more speed and versatility on offense. They have youth across the board on offense but also a higher ceiling.

Love will be at worst solid and at best very good. I’ll predict he is 13th in QB rating in his first year.

Defense finishes top 8 in yards and points.

10-7 Playoffs. Love shows that he is capable but just short of us calling him "Franchise"

9-8 would be a win if Love shows anything. 6-11 would be great if he doesn’t.

Fun and a 10-7 record sound good to me too. Maybe 11-6. Their schedule looks not too bad right now:

@Atl, vs NO, @LV, @Denver after the bye, vs Rams, vs Tampa, @Carolina seem pretty winnable. That's 7.

If they go 3-3 in the division, that gets the W number to 10. If they can go 4-2, that'd be 11 wins plus a favorable division record for playoff tiebreakers.

Rounding out the schedule are @Pitt, vs Chargers, vs KC, @Giants.

13-4. The defense is top 3 in the league and Love manages the games and shows flashes. Heavy dose of the running game with a nice play action game makes the offense good enough to win with the stout opportunistic defense.

I'm an optimistic person so I'll go 11-6 but honestly no result would really surprise me. That unknown actually has me more excited about this season than most out of pure curiosity.

I made a $100 bet that we win at least 9 games. I think the offense, defense and special teams should all be better than last year against a third place schedule. That has to all add up to more wins than last year if we don’t have major injury issues.

I'll go 12-5, division winners, Love earns a Pro Bowl spot.

Give me 8-9. I like a lot of what we did this offseason but I expect growing pains from the young guys.

11-6 in a not very tightly contested division. Vikings 8-9
Lions 6-11
Bears 5-12

10-7, playoffs

-Love shows flashes of brilliance but plenty of growing pains

-the group of Watson, Doubs, Reed, Musgrave show massive upside

-the front 7 eats quarterback souls all year (serious, excited to watch this unit get after QBs)

8-9. Lots of close games. Enough there to see that Love is the future, but lots of growing pains on offense.

Win 13, go bowling, lose to Bengals. Not being facetious. Don't ask me why, it's just all the usual reasons regarding Rodgers and MLF and certain sources of dysfunction and injuries and unfulfilled defensive potential, with nearly all of those things being fixed or fixable, plus the underrated fact that they don't have nearly as many weak links.
