To be honest, I’m pretty excited about the DL kid from Palantine.

There should be some really talented rosters 2025-2027 let's hope...we're gonna need it. Was not going to be easy to remake the roster from the portal alone with nothing left over after Chryst. The ~2017-2020 scheduling decisions we made for 2024-2030 + realignment + B10 schedule makers hating us are going to give us some serious challenges.

The good news is that in this era of mega conferences, we're going to have years like Indiana just had.

2026 we miss Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, and Washington.

Same thing in 2027, but no Notre Dame:

vs Pitt in Ireland
Southern Illinois
Colorado State
@ Illinois
@ MSU
@ Minnesota
@ USC
Iowa
Nebraska
Northwesten
Penn State
UCLA

If the QB situation gets settled and these recruiting classes are as good as hyped to be, the expectation will be 10 wins in both and '26-27.

I'm dumb. I should have read it closer, most of those game's schedules are TBA. My bad.

Yeah, specifically, 2026 is doable given the conference schedule isn't terrible, but we get Notre Dame and Pitt (not a pushover).

2027 things should open up - of course - who knows how good the other teams will be. We can reasonably assume that PSU/OSU/Oregon will be legit and Michigan/USC will probably be...and then throw in that Iowa will be competitive, etc.

There will probably be another moderately good team like Michigan State or something who opens up a window of being good here.

2026 & 2027 are going to be the make or break seasons specifically for Fickell. If we can't make a run those seasons then he is likely going to be gone

Florida St just flipped a QB from Oklahoma. Gotta be a good sign for Carter Smith

Crystal Ball for Smith to Wisconsin now.

Maybe if his name was Denise instead of Dennis.

Top 100 QB, #3 dual threat on Rivals.

I don't think any of it matters until they hire an OC. Why would a kid commit now?

Apparently him/his team didnt want to meet with Longo. I bet things are already moving behind the scenes.

Logically I agree with you, but the kid that just flipped from Oklahoma to Florida St did so with Florida St not currently having an OC. It was reported that Longo was no involved at all in the recruitment of Carter Smith as well fwiw

Agreed. This is a done deal in all likelihood. (Famous last words, haha)

Would make a great week in recruiting after such a disappointing finish to the game.

I’m guessing TVD sticks around, this kid comes in, and we spend all our Nil budget on the best transfer QB we can get. Whole new room next year.

Quick look ahead to next year:
QB: Likely transfer
RB: Walker/Dupree/Jones (Yac probably transfers out unless it was a Longo thing)
WR: Anthony/Burroughs/Williams/Trech (Pauling goes pro?)
TE: Ashcraft/Stec (guessing Booker and McGowan leave)
LT: Mahlman
LG: Brunner
C: Nelson? Okla? Durand?
RG: Benzschawel
RT: Heywood

DL: Neal
DL: Johnson
DL: Willor

LB: Alliegro
LB: Cheeks
LB: Jansey

OLB: Lafaele
OLB: Peterson
OLB: Heiberger

Dollar: Curtis

CB: Duclona (Rico goes pro)
CB: Lucas
CB: Aagard
S: Brown
S: Moore

No idea? I’m probably forgetting some guys with an extra year of eligibility, and I’m sure some will transfer out. Secondary is a complete rebuild. We’ll have some serious athletes to play. Hopefully it clicks.

Bummer.

Probably need at least someone from the portal for short yardage. Maybe Gideon is ready.
