Is Jerramy Stevens worth the risk?

Post#1 » by Reggie White » Wed Apr 4, 2007 1:49 am

Jerramy Stevens has a history of issues, but he would definitely fill a need at the TE position.

Is he worth the risk? I say yes ...

TT should know him from his time in Seattle. If he's cheap he's worth bringing to camp. We definitely need a TE upgrade. Unless we draft Greg Olsen we have to find one on the street.

A good blocking TE is important but Favre does best when his TE is a receiving weapon as well.

NO NO NO NO NO!

Dear God, this guy's a mess. First he gets a DUI as a free agent. Then there's reports coming from people that he lives with in same apartment complex in Seattle, that they've found vomit, marijuana, alcohol, etc. all over the place.

This guy had maybe 4-5 drops in that game against the Pack last year. I really don't want him, AT ALL.

At least a guy like Pacman Jones is a very good player,it makes things tougher to not want the guy even though he's a trouble magnet.Stevans isn't good enough to accept the risk of aquiring a drunk.

I would like his ability as a pass catching te, although his numbers are pretty uninpressive.
I think he is an absolute mess though...
I'd say this, if the packers can't land moss, then they should look into stevens. If they still feel they will acquire moss, they should avoid it, because then we'll have too many headaches on this team.

I really think that there are better options out there.

I don't understand what happend to Bubba. He got his money because he was a solid blocker, but he could also be a threat in the red zone....he has been everything BUT a threat lately.

Anyone have any insite as to what the heck happend to him?

My personal opinion of Bubba was that he was trying to be somehting he was not. It looked like to often he was trying to catch the ball and run with it at the same time, trying to gain some YAC. He is not that kind of TE, he has the ability to create space and wall off defenders with his wide body, that is what made him so effective in the red zone.

I think Bubba will get better. 2 years ago Doanld Lee made some big plays at TE, last year not so much, i say give him a chance. According to mccarthy zac alcorn has the best hands on the team, and he didnt preface that with for a TE, he said best hands on the team.

This all leads to the answer of no for stevens, we are already awaiting the return of a former seattle player with alcohol problems. Not to mention this is only the first round of free agents, lets not jump the gun on signing a TE who would give us pretty much what bubba did last year, inconsistency. WE need a guy who can catch the ball. Maybe wesley walls, or keith jackson want to still play.

I'd take a pass on him unless he's still available when camp begins and is real cheap. Otherwise he seems like a douche and I'd rather not take him on.
