Pack shopping pick #16

Post#1 » by wichmae » Wed Apr 11, 2007 3:11 pm

From Insider

Pack looking for takers
<Apr. 10> Even though the Packers have had a passive offseason in terms of free-agent signings, don't be surprised to see them trade down in the first round. General manager Ted Thompson values gaining additional draft choices. At No. 16 in the first round, the Packers may not be in position to get halfback Marshawn Lynch, and the team has the luxury of drafting the best athlete. The Packers could trade down and still get a top receiver or maybe even tight end Greg Olsen.

That doesn't say they're shopping anything.

I don't know how they expect to compete without a RB. Morency and Herron are nice, but not every down backs. I'm a Hurricanes fan, and I love Greg Olson, but is a tight end not named Vernon Davis really worth a 1st round pick? Look at Bubba.

I'm reading the Insider rumor. There's no link, no source, and no mention of the Packers shopping a pick. They just say exactly what you posted:

don't be surprised to see them trade down in the first round. General manager Ted Thompson values gaining additional draft choices.

Thompson likes draft picks and may trade down. Wow. Stop the presses.

I have Insider.

Are you seeing something I'm not? What article are you referring to?

Yea, I can be a condescending ass sometimes, but I simply like to see factual information. The Insider snippet is nothing more than the opinion of Insider. They use filler like this when they don't have anything else to say and have been doing it for years. It's why people ragon ESPN Insider all the time. If they've got 'inside sources' that say the Packers are looking to shop the #16 pick, that's one thing. But their reasoning is simply because Thompson likes picks he may look to deal down? That's nothing new and in no way indicates the Packers are shopping anything.

Looks like simple speculation to me, as DrugBust has pointed out.

In reality, I think all teams shop their picks especially if they get a good deal they can't pass up. I actually hope TT trades out of the 16 spot.

Yea agree with DB, no source and not even a rumor. Just pointing out TT;s history.

I agree with the rest of you I wouldnt mind trading down and getting another 1st day pick. Im personally scared of drafting ML.

I've made same "prediction" several times that TT will trade down soley based on his histroy and that there is no solid #16. I hope he does. ML and Ginn and Meachem don't excite me. As for trading down to take Olsen - some mock drafts have him gone before 16. CB Reavis would be cool but he'll be gone also. So 16 is not getting any player that is a lock.

Fortunately there has been little promotion of trading up for Peterson on this board as there stupidly was last year for Bush. Wasted words. TT does NOT do that.
